Lemmy seemingly is more anti Soviet than Reddit, unless you’re talking about the main Reddit subs which is cheating. Seriously I’ve never seen people who consider themselves socialist to be so vehemently anti ussr especially without providing why; atleast on Reddit lots of people try liking Wikipedia or something lmfao

They’re pretty much always social democrats/liberals/capitalists with some “progressive” views who like the idea of identifying with socialism but are spooked by things that they consider too radical.

Anarchists to be fair have a legitimate ideological opposition to the state, hierarchy, and militarism. I don’t agree with them but I can understand them.

I can 100% sympathize with them too, I used to be the edgiest anarchist you could be. Like calling military recruiters baby killers type edgy in high school. Lol. I still go out to weird crazy anarchist punk rock shows all the time, it’s actually not the worst place to organize anymore because theres less drunk heroin addict punks, now they’re all parents or young gay kids n shit.

I used to parrot all the stuff about communism being evil and Stalin and stuff because, with 0 reading, my understanding of communism was that it was exactly the same as Nazism/fascism. I have learned a lot since but I’m still in no position to argue against American neoliberalism to well meaning liberals and/or anarchists at work cuz I just wanna finish my fuckin shift in this kitchen and fucking go home. lol 😅

It is indeed a sad death.

      But his life was complex.

Born to a regular family. Getting a lifelong arm injury in his childhood.
Going to a seminary for education and then stumbling upon Socialist ideas and supporting them.
Losing his wife, the love of his life, to some disease.
Seeing the West enabling Nazi Germany in the Munich agreement and making compromises.
Losing his son in the war against the Nazis.
Staying in Moscow when they were at great danger and then seeing the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics defeat the Nazis.
USSR aiding and being friendly to anticolonial movements.
