Hey all,

so we have 2 beautiful british shorthairs from the shelter. They love each other and get along really well.

One is extremely vocal. It took us a while and some vet visits to make sure he isn’t in pain. He isn’t - he’s just a screamer.

Now, his meows are cute most of the time, but he has now started meowing around 6am, both loudly and constantly, when we’d still like to sleep. He is very much into food, so he probably starts yelling the moment he gets a little hungry.

Have you had similar experiences and any advice?

Yes. We had a cat who was a bit of a glutton and would wake us up yowling in the early mornings. We stopped feeding him in the morning and just gave him a full day’s meal at night. He didn’t wake us up after that change.

This. We did the same with out cats. They have dry kibble available all day, but we stopped giving them wet food in the morhing and only give wet food in the evening. Most of the annoying loud morning meowing stopped.

This is a bit tricky, unfortunately. The gray one is much more into dry food and we’ve already had to cut back on food a little bit because he has been gaining weight. I fear that if food is always available, the gray one would gain weight very quickly.
