Help! I’m getting screen tearing in the new twitter!
No, the successor for XCOM is UFO: Alien Invasion.
The development had stopped since 2020, you’ll have to make do with inferior closed-source commercial clone called XCOM 2.
Can someone please ELI5 this to me? Everyone seems to get it (as a joke?) but me.
Ooh, it’s the logo, god damn it, got it 2 secconds after posting this.
Just in case anyone else stumbles across this and is confused, I’ll explain in more detail.
On Linux there are two display server protocols, the very old X11 and the newer Wayland, which was designed as a successor to X11 by its maintainers.
Elon Musk announced today that he is renaming Twitter to X (yes, just X). The above posts takes the mick out of this on this by announcing a social media website called Wayland, i.e. the successor to Musk’s X.
To expand, one of his early businesses was X.com which was a payment processor and sold to paypal and eventually shutdown. He bought the domain again back in 2017 and it now redirects to twitter.
He’s also been wanting to name something X for a while. When Ford wouldn’t let him name the Model 3 the Model X (so his cars would spell SEX) he must have sat on his laurels until he had a brain aneurysm big enough to make him think it’s a good idea to dump the Twitter brand for a math problem.
Isn’t it that he wanted model E but that’s the one Ford wouldn’t allow? Because there is a Tesla model X. He wanted to spell SEXY but instead he now has S3XY.
Ah yea, that’s right. I misremembered.
Talk about callbacks…
It’s not just the logo, the domain name is extremely similar too (x.com vs x.org).
Big brands like to own all variants of their domain (so you can’t register google.org or facebook.net, for example). But X can’t do that.
Like Weyland-Yutani?

Bit random, but good to know.
It’s markdown syntax: https://www.markdownguide.org/basic-syntax/#images-1
It follows the pattern of the link syntax which is why it comes across a little chaotic
Dammit for some reason I thought this was some kind of rare, unknown game cover for a game called XCOM Enemy.
