Right now, I’m playing the early access version of Baldurs Gate 3. I’m getting ready to put it down (frustrated: BG3 has the potential to be good, but without controller support, I’m getting really frustrated with the UI. ) and switch to Yakuza Like a Dragon.
What are you playing now and what are you looking forward to playing next?
Usually Indies, a lot of slay the spire recently, but I’ve just started Street Fighter VI.
Tempted by System Shock next cos I never played the original.
The system shock remake is honestly one of the best games of the year, even while being a remake.
So I hear! Hyped.
System shock FTW!🙌
What are some good indies that play fine on the Steam Deck? I’d like to use it more but don’t own many games that are compatible and have “comfortable”, smooth controls. I tried to play some of my favorite games on the Deck and figuring out the controls broke my brain.
Vampire survivors and all the other games in the “bullet heaven” genre play great. Stardew and every farming style top of game plays great. Some deck builders play great. Action games like hollow knight and Steamworld games. Lots of options.
Art of Rally, Nova Drift, Shovel Knight, Celeste, Stanley Parable, Hollow Knight, Project Wingman, Tunic, Katana Zero, Stardew Valley, Vampire Survivors.
I’ve found racing games, walking simulators, and retro style games tend to work well since they are usually designed with controllers in mind. Surprisingly a lot of point and click games work quite well with the track pads.
Steam Deck best tech purchase for me in a long time. Don’t judge me too much but I’ve been playing Disney Speedstorm between TotK sessions.
Yeah! It’s such a perfect device. So easy to stuff it in a backpack and just bring it out whenever. It’s honestly everything I’ve ever wanted the switch to be
Horizon Zero Dawn. Had it on PS4 and didn’t get far. Having a Deck changes everything.
Not a steamdeck user but a linux pc gamer so solidarity. Currently playing RE2 and Like a dragon Ishin.
Celeste Strawberry Jam An absolute masterpiece that runs perfectly on the Deck
I tried picking up Strawberry Jam but had a hard time getting the mods to run on deck. What’s the secret?
I ended up playing on PC but damn these new levels are difficult.
What particular issues were you getting?
Using Olympus, Everest installed fairly easily. The only tweak I had to do is to turn off FastTextureLoading in the Everest config file.
I think just getting Everest installed properly. It never seemed to run or update correctly.
Wow. I did not realize that Celeste had a fan made mod like this. I bought it the main game. several months back and played it a bit but this looks crazy. Thanks for the tip!
Just a note, I migrated my account to lemmy.world
Diablo 4 for me! Amazing performance, it can even run on Ultra but battery is sucked dry within 45 minutes
Diablo 4 has been the move for me too. Easily installed and has been running great.
I’ve been pondering getting this. I must be one of 10 people who have never played a Diablo game. Do you think 4 is approachable for newbs to the franchise?
I think it is imo. The story seemed totally disconnected from previous games and can stand on its own.
I’ve been playing Lone Fungus from the recent metroidvania humble bundle, it’s alright? Takes a lot from other games, Hollow Knight in particular, and mostly doesn’t live up to its inspirations, but is still fun enough. Very easy to binge and it has a bunch of areas/bosses so it’s not really repetitive or slow at all. Like a 6/10 so far, but if you’ve played nearly everything in the genre like I have it’s fun enough
That’s been my impression of it as well. I’m also playing Haiku and Blasphemous from the same bundle
Man I love blasphemous, its such a masterpiece imo
Old school RuneScape- don’t play this game, it sucks and I have an addiction
Yuzu emulator - playing the Luminescent platinum romhack of BDSP. Having a great time, it’s an excellent romhack so far.
Mechabellum - the only good auto chess style game I’ve played, and it’s really good. Doesn’t quite run well enough on the deck for my liking so I just stream from my PC in the other room
Diablo 4, runs pretty decent.
How did you get it to work on the SD? The controller support for Diablo is amazing, I’m sure I’d have an amazing time on the steam deck for it.
I first downloaded and played it on my main rig(also linux). I used the lutris community script to install battle.net and then just installed the game through the launcher as you normally would. Then I simply copied the prefix to my SD, that way I didn’t have to redownload it again, added it to lutris on my SD, linked it to steam, and voila. I’m using Proton-GE 8.4 and have had no issues so far.
Vampire Survivors for a while. Lately I just finished up a run through of Pokemon Red and just got started on a run of Pokemon Silver.
Dark Souls 1 for the first time! Runs beautifully. Gonna do 2 next.
Recently: Skyrim yet again, Portal 2
Currently: Horizon Zero Dawn, Wreckfest, Emulators
Next: Probably Cyberpunk. I started it a few months ago, but have been playing Horizon instead.
How do you do with mods for skyrim? Mine would takes up more than half of the disk space (512) and i am worried the mods won’t work as intended because windows and linux works differently when it comes to paths so i haven’t done the switch
Yeah that’s occasionally a problem. Also, the deck isn’t that powerful.
I opted to not do too many visual mods, and instead mostly did convenience, gameplay and items mods.
I’ve just beaten Control, it’s pretty weird, but still a fun game. Worked on the deck without any issues and configuration. Next I’ll play Horizon Zero Dawn.
I love the world Control built. The architecture, the feeling of it being some weird mix of Stephen King and Twin Peaks, how it didn’t hold my hand in figuring anything out.
What an atmosphere!
That one part, with the music, with the Walkman (you know what I’m talking about) is one of the top emotional moments in gaming history for me!
Have you played the “predecessor” game that sort of exists in the same universe, “Alan Wake”? Also runs perfectly on the Deck and I quite enjoyed it. It’s weird as hell.
I’ve heard about it before, but had no idea that these two games are from the same universe! I’ll add it to my backlog.
I won’t drop any spoilers because it’s a wild ride, but there is one obvious overlap (not in a main plotline or anything) that’ll make you chuckle.
Right now I’m playing Horizon Zero dawn. runs beautifully. very occasionally crashes but otherwise great.
yes! I bought it when it went on sale some weeks ago and I’ve been enjoying it immensely on the deck. I’ve noticed the crashes reduced dramatically when I stopped putting the deck to sleep with HZD still running. It seems to still crash rarely when I go to the “manual save” screen if I play it for hours on end, but closing and reopening the game every now and then during long play sessions seems to have helped a lot.
I’ve actually set my Deck up with a wireless keyboard and mouse and a monitor and spend a lot of time using it in desktop mode. The “real” gaming PC is still around, but it’s a fallback. So I’m arguably playing Beehaw on it right now, but I just alt-tabbed away from Overload to do this. I’ll play Guild Wars 2 on it for a while tomorrow…
