Well, you see, money is speech now.

So I guess the question is…would this SCOTUS suppress the free speech of billionaires who want to buy votes directly?

Yep, the Citizens United decision let everyone know that some people just have more free speech than others. This is America.

It isn’t bribary. The checks aren’t valid, as many have claimed, so they think their vote gets bought but in the end they are just being scammed. That’s what happens when you trust Elon. He lies. Even as the richest man in the world he’s too cheap to pay out 1000 dollar votes he bought. Also, breaking the law is only being punished when you’re poor. Elon broke the law many times by influencing the stock market for his own profits. And of course all the rapes. He hasn’t been convicted of anything. Just “warnings”.

Did you read the law I posted and linked? They don’t have to follow through. Anyone who even offers money or anything else of value to someone to get them to vote or not vote at all is in violation of this law. Whether they follow through on it or not. Just making the offer is a crime. Elon offered money to people to vote. Period. He broke this statute.

The lawsuit asks the court to order that Musk never offer similar payments to voters again.

Why stop at a specific number? The troll will just do it again using a different number.

A better tactic would be to threaten free delivery of a cyberstuck for every person that doesn’t vote the way he wants.

It never was a democracy. The fact that the popular vote and the representative vote can produce different results proves this.

We’ve failed ourselves by having elected Congresspersons where things like this can even be a concern.

Side note: fuck the ACLU for using a deeply and fundamentally flawed argument to defend and support the Citizens United ruling. I stopped donating to them when I learned about that years ago.
