Don’t forget Native Americans called Washington “Town Destroyer”. And it was not only because he was destroying towns but also because he inherited this title from his great-grandpa who was also called Town Destroyer because he also destroyed towns. Generally, when i look at the history of British-USA ruling class, destroying native towns was very popular among them.

Oh, and he liked that nickname.

How is progress on the Crazy Horse monument? I’ve swung by once a decade since I was a teen, but it’s been 11yrs since my last visit.

It’s going pretty well! Visited just last year and there was some noticable progress since I had seen it 5 years prior

Great to hear. Last I was there was close to a decade ago, and it looked very similar to my first viewing in the early 90s… there was a significant amount of mountain removed in that time, but visually, it was still very similar.

Wasn’t there a myth about how Washington had horse teeth in his mouth? There’s a great bit my Geoffrey Asmus on that, how he eventually learns it was slave teeth

Yep kinda, the white-washing history myth that most US gradeschoolers get taught is that “george washington had wooden teeth”. The reality is that a lot of his teeth were from his slaves.

Margaret Kimberly’s - Prejudential goes through every US president individually, and has a good chapter on him.
