  • the voter id thing is over simplified, easy sound bite, misdirection selected because having an id to vote has a broad consensus with everybody so long as you don’t look beyond the surface of what it actually means:

voters in this country already have id’s and have to show id to vote so they’re not referring to the act of voting; they’re referring to the act of registering to vote because the federal government doesn’t define it well so the states insert their own version of it and most of the state governments in this country are republican which use “voter id” as a means to suppress democrat voters within their jurisdictions.

in other words: if you cannot register to vote, then you are not allowed to vote; it doesn’t matter that the federal government could recognize your id as legitimate for voting, it only matters than your state does and your state is not legally required to match the federal government’s definition of acceptable voting id if it existed. conservative states know this; are a solid majority in this country and are using their majority position to pressure the federal government into adopting it to suppress the other party’s voters.

for decades, the conservative state and city governments have been receiving financial and advisory support from dark monied astro-turfed conservative movements that have spent millions of dollars and decades worth of experiments on cherry picked court cases and using their relationship with the governments to test out policies that could have the effect that conservatives desire to see in our society. using “voter id” is something that they spent a lot of time and money and effort reviewing over and over again and it was money will spent because now people think they know what it means based on it’s name; but that understanding is shallow.

Harris is Palestines best bet at continued existence. Sorry if that hurts your feelings or something…

continued existence is going to happen one way or the other. isreal is going for an american style genocide which means kill enough of the natives so that they’re a small, manageable enough number and then your country can spend the rest of its existence throwing enough $$$ at their reservations to ostensibly show you’re “super sorry” that you genocided so many of them; but not enough to for them to ever escape this newly imposed generational poverty and also without any promise that your country won’t ever fuck them over again in the future when another pipeline needs to be built.

You’re getting down voted but this is what it feels like watching our gargantuan government help eradicate an entire people…

    – again.

sometimes the sense of helplessness that comes from watching us repeat the history that everyone abhors and ignores makes me wish that i was a moderate so that i can fool myself into believing that voting for one genocider was better than voter for another genocider.

i also wonder if my existence at the intersection of several vulnerable communities would eventually dispel that world view anyways if i were a moderate since there are so many brown, immigrant, gay, autistic conservatives.

  • they also have help from the public.

when i was 6 years old, ice’s predecessor impounded the only vehicle my family owned at the time; a 1978 ford econoline 250 family van; and held it for over a year on the suspicion that we were smuggling drugs & people across the border.

when they finally agreed to return it after multiple requests from a cheap lawyer; they made us travel six hours to collect it and it was literally in pieces and in different cities. ie: cylinder head was in one garage; brake calipers were in a another; engine block was in the garage in the next city over; transmission was also dissembled into component pieces and we had to travel to california to get it.

immigration (aka ice’s predecessor) did not have the mechanical know-how to deconstruct a large family van so they clearly sent it to mechanics across 4 border cities to deconstruct it for them all the way down to their constituent parts. there’s no conceivable way that those mechanics didn’t already know why they’re deconstructing an already older van by that time, but they did it anyways. (and they weren’t paid for it)

to make it clearer that the cruelty was the point (we were a family of 7 surviving off of minimum wage so reassembling an entire car was already not realistic) they gave us 30 minutes to collect all of those car pieces and it was a large family van so 30 minutes was not realistic either; especially since only 75% of those pieces were in arizona between 2 cities and the rest were in california.

in the end, joke was on them, though. we were lucky enough to have a large enough circle of family and friends that were willing to help across both states to collect the parts within that 30 minute window and also have enough mechanical competency among us to reconstruct the van from all of the parts and, as a result, that van ran without ANY mechanical issues for almost 20 years; we didn’t spend a penny on it after rebuilding it.
