Finished Hyrle Warriors: Age of Calamity!

There were some interesting moments in the story, specially near the end, something I never thought I’ll say about a Warriors game.

My final percentage was around 50%. I did pretty much all the side missions in first 4-5 chapters, but didn’t do any of them in the last couple of chapters. As for the “resource” missions thingies, where you just have to give resources to get some upgrade etc. I did as many of those as I could without specifically grinding for their materials. Majority of the uncompleted nodes belonged to these.

There was also post game content, which can unlock a new character, I didn’t go for that, just saw it’s video on YouTube.

Spoilers about some characters:

spoiler

The characters from future! They were a surprise, didn’t expect them to show up here. Rito one was different though. Didn’t recognise him.

Overall, liked the game, and plan to eventually play both Fire Emblem Warriors and Age of Imprisonment. Not right away though, lots of other games already in my list.

Played more of Dark Souls Remastered.

Game is going good, haven’t gotten stuck anywhere since the Bell Gargoyle boss (pretty much the only place where I was stuck). It doesn’t mean I haven’t died though. Many deaths, many lost souls, but not as much as I was expecting.

I have just reached Anor Londo. Don’t know what it means in grand scheme of things, but I think I should be nearing the half-point.

Played a tiny bit more of Mutant Mudd Collection too. Cleared 4-4 and then got stuck at 5-1. Too many moving things! A moving rock, a flying enemy, a disappearing platform!

Found out that there are also alternate/night version of all levels, where enemies are ghosts and I can’t hit them, but the rest of the level design is same. Going to try those next. Some of those will probably also be pretty difficult. The first level was pretty easy though, but that was the first level.

Didn’t really play Fire Emblem: Three Houses or Cozy Grove this week either.

I have started too many games this time, so trying to finish those I can quickly, before getting back into these.

Weird thing to say right after talking about how many games I have started, but may start Killing Floor 3 this weekend. It was given in PS+ Monthly games this month, and some of the friends are interested, so plan to give it a try over the weekend and see if we like it enough to play it for a while.

This will probably just be a weekend nights game with friends, if we do play it and end up planning to continue it.

What about all of you? What have you been playing and/or plan to play?

I’m closing in on what was originally the end of Xenoblade X on the Wii U. I still have a bunch of side missions to do, but now that I have all but one character unlocked, I will probably rush to the new part of the story that gets me that last one so he can start collecting BP for his skills. I haven’t picked up any treasures in a while to save the BP for the final characters so it doesn’t become a stupid grind at the end. I need to play more though, I need to finish this so I can play Metroid Prime 4. I prefer to only play one Switch game at a time, because I really don’t like removing and inserting tiny cartridges with my gigantic hands.

…but I’ve started Metroid Prime 4 anyway. I couldn’t resist! I love hoe much you can configure your controls. I’ve spent quite a bit trying to recreate the controls of the Wii versions. I tried playing twinstick for the first Prime’s remaster, but it never felt right to me. I’ve never played the games on the GameCube, the Wii Trilogy version is all I know, so I need pointer controls! I can’t play for very long though, after about an hour my hand almost falls asleep and it’s probably because the JoyCons are so much smaller than a WiiMote. That’s fine though, Metroid is never a long game anyway, so this keeps it going for longer!

I have to say though, the game starts very, VERY slow. I thought the game would open up after the prologue, but there was more prologue with Lieutenant Tim Talksalot (who doesn’t stay with you all the time, thank GOD!). I thought the game would open up after that second prologue, but that’s when the game really wants you to get your motorcycle. That was about 2 hours of very linear gameplay that’s probably going to stop now, but I’m not going to count my Metroid babies before they hatch.

I have reached Disc 2 of Wild Arms 2. It genuinely feels like season 2 of an Anime, I did not remember every villain introduced on Disc 1 to be defeated by the end of it, leaving us with something completely different to do now. And the game finally upped the damage numbers by the end of Disc 1, it was about time I had to try a little harder!

I am same with Switch games, don’t like to close one and start another, and that’s just with the digital games 😀

As someone who has only played the Switch version, the controls felt normal to me. For Prime Remaster that is, haven’t started Prime 4 yet, but it’s good that they have added the option to configure your controls. In this day and age no game should ship without contol rebinding options.

      Minor Metroid 4 spoilers.

Yeah, the moment the game opens up is after you complete Volt Forge and get the bike.

Good news! The BP is there already! Every character gets BP even if they aren’t in the active party. But I might be thinking of something else. I know XP isn’t for the bench, but I thought everything else was.

They don’t get BP if they haven’t joined the party yet. Mia had ~100 when she joined compared to the several thousand points the early characters have by now. But I’ve prepared for that for a while. I tried to save the BP reward for Cauldros survey completion, but you need 65% for the Mia quest to pop up in the first place.

Bad news! I don’t remember as much of the game as I thought! But I’m glad we’ve all taken turns enjoying it in these weekly posts.

It’s role-playing day at the house, but two of the kids can’t make it, so we’ve got board games ready to go:

Things in Rings: I’ve this one mentioned before, I think. It’s like Venn diagram, the board games it’s fun to figure out patterns!

Meeple Circus: stack your little wooden animals and acrobats with time and circus music pressures

Unlock!: these escape room board games are only playable once, but I love to experience them with my wife and then give them away. They come in three adventures per box for a shade under forty bucks. Highly recommended!

On the alone front, I’m still grumpy about Octopath Traveler 0 and the game key situation, but there’s a anniversary event in the mobile game it is based on, so I’m not stressing about it too much.

In a professional note, I am using Kahoot! as the scoring system for an ongoing school game for my civics classes. The students are in their fall season now with six “football” teams playing each other double round robin over the ten weeks of the 2nd quarter of school. Since it’s American football-based, I take the top eleven players from each team to calculate their weekly score and post it for the kids the following day. Since the quarter is winding down, I’m working on the next quarter’s game, based on the March Madness tournaments. Getting 160 kids’ data and scores into 32 teams is a game in itself (on one of my favorite sports: Microsoft Excel).

      Sounds like a fun day!

My kid’s teacher also used Kahoot for something couple of years ago, they didn’t reuse it so maybe didn’t get a great feedback. It was lower primary though, so kids had different needs.

There were some interesting moments in the story, specially near the end, something I never thought I’ll say about a Warriors game.

That’s one of the things I’ve liked most about the Hyrule Warriors games. They do a better job at storytelling than Nintendo for sure. And it’s great on Age of Imprisonment too!

I played 100% of the content in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment, including the new content from the latest update and all the upgrades for every character. The only thing I’m missing for 100% completion is the Aside Quests (e.g. Kill 100 lizalfos with x character). If you finish them all for a given character, they give you an extra conversation with them. It’s a lot, and I think I’d need a lot more hours of replaying the same missions to finish them.

I’ll probably go back to replaying it for a few missions every now and then, but I’m not going to focus on 100%ing it. I had the chance to play it co-op last weekend, and it was really fun, so I might go back to doing that too. If they release some DLC in the future, I might get it. It’s been a really fun game which I’ll definitely replay in the future, and it’s mostly ruined the previous two games with how good it looks and plays.

I got Metroid Prime 4 delivered a few minutes ago. I’ve only put the cartridge into the Switch 2 to download the updates, but I haven’t opened the game yet. That’ll be what I’ll be playing tonight and probably most of the rest of the weekend 😬

Yeah, I loved how the game expands the story BotW world, and showing different characters and what they went through. Would love to see what they do with TotK!

Have fun with Metroid Prime 4!

    Finished Nine Sols!

I know was being stubborn in finishing the game without lowering difficulty, but holy crap that final boss was hard, likely the hardest story boss I’ve fought in a game in this genre. And I went for the “Normal” ending, which gives you the easier version of that battle!

Took me a few hours of practice and experimentation with different setups until I succeeded, what worked for me was playing very safe with attacks and relying on equipment that makes parries do damage, talismans and arrows to kill it. Using the talisman mode that lets you recharge arrows was great since it let me keep using them to stop annoying attacks.

Anyway, this game was fantastic and is absolutely worth it for fans of the genre. And don’t let my talk of difficulty scare you, it has settings that let you adjust the challenge to your tastes.

    Finished Super Mario Galaxy 2!

Cleared the main story. Right now I want to move to other games but will probably pick it up for short play sessions from time to time since there’s plenty left to do. The gyro-based pointer controls are a bit awkward but that aside it’s still a great game.

Finished Milk outside a bag of milk outside a bag of milk!

The second game is longer, has better production values and multiple endings. It continues from where the first game left off, with the girl arriving at her home after buying milk, and once again you play as her “voice in the head” while exploring a bit more of her life and traumas.

I think I prefer the first game, but both were quite unique and interesting.

Playing Danmaku Unlimited 3, Caladrius Blaze and Cotton Fantasy!

A comment in last week’s thread got me to dig into the ongoing deals and I found out there were three recommended shoot-em-up/bullet hell games on sale for ~$3 each. So I just went and bought them all. 😄

Danmaku Unlimited 3 is IMO the best of the three and it’s quickly becoming one of my favorites of the genre.

    Playing Super Robot Taisen Y!

Was busy with other games so only did a couple missions. Still working on the DLC content before resuming the main story.

    Playing Metroid Prime 4: Beyond!

My copy got here right before the end of the day yesterday (23:40 according to the tracking system), so I only managed to start it today during lunchtime.

First impression is “holy crap this looks way too crisp for Switch 1 game”, Retro Studio is really doing miracles with this old hardware. But not a lot of progress yet, just completed the brief prologue and arrived at the alien world we’ll be exploring this time.

Congratulations on finishing Nine Sols and beating the final boss without lowering the difficulty!

I was a bit worried about how Metroid Prime 4 will work on Switch 1, but nice to see that they made it work. Looking forward to your review as the game progresses.

I saw a few reviews and comparison videos for Prime 4 on the Switch 1 and it seems to run extremely well! Here’s one of those: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mMc1oik78Vc

60FPS locked most of the time with very small dips in the “open world” sections which is the same behavior as the Switch 2.

Oh, didn’t know it was 60FPS on Switch 1 too, just heard that it works good and thought it might be 30 on Switch 1. This is even better than I thought.

Yes, it’s mind-blowing. It’s likely the best looking game on the Switch 1 and it somehow still manages to keep a stable 60 FPS
