WASHINGTON, Dec 15 (Reuters) - President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Monday declaring fentanyl a weapon of mass destruction, a move that dramatically expands the U.S. government’s authority to fight the synthetic opioid blamed for tens of thousands of American overdose deaths each year.

The designation, unprecedented for a narcotic, signals Trump’s intent to treat fentanyl not merely as a public health crisis but as a national security threat on a par with chemical warfare.

I posted this on another Trump/fentanyl news announcement.

When you think back… WMD was what justified the war in Iraq. Now he says this drug is a WMD and is coming in to USA from Venezuela but we know it isnt, most reliable news says so. He has also said it is coming from Canada. Is this his push to justify a full scale attack on Canada?

He legitimately believes that being a wartime president is his key to holding onto power. Either because history shows that wartime presidents poll well, or because he can argue that we shouldn’t change leadership during a war. He desperately wants a crisis that he can throw the military at, not the inevitable collapse of the economy that he is unable/unwilling to do anything about.

Got to put troops on the streets in the US to ferret out the insurgents by any means necessary.

The British forced them to buy their opium at gunpoint for a big profit, draining the imperial coffers. The Qing didn’t industrialize or grow the state which is the larger issue.

Regardless, currently in North America fent is cheap and easy to get and the country hasn’t ground to a halt.

There are drugs in maximum security prisons, so eliminating drugs is impossible. All drug prohibition does is give criminals an incredibly lucrative business and forces people who take drugs to buy stuff that’s cut with dangerous shit.

Sounds like a good time. How do you define “halt” in this context, without giving away that you’re embedded in a capitalist society?
