That is one of the really nice things about the Steam Deck. It gives companies something to target. And once you have a Steam Deck app, well, you already have a Linux app, might as well release it as such.
The Steam Machine will do the same thing.
Fuck that, host it yourself. Sunshine and Moonlight.
Fuck nvidia with 100 foot pole.
Never buy anything from them.
Never buy any subscriptions from anyone.
Don’t fall for their trap. They don’t want you to control or own your own devices. Fuck them.
Good for you Nvidia. I just switched from Nvidia to AMD during that minor price dip. Been wanting to for years but couldn’t afford it.
… Not going back : D
Neat, videogame license holders can now run their games on hardware they don’t own either. Must be great for economic growth.
Isn’t “Geforce Now” the background service that you have to sign into? I’m glad that Nvidia is taking Linux seriously, but this was never useful on Windows. (for me)
I suppose some Linux users may find it useful, and having a choice is always better. But this is the kind of software I don’t miss since I switched.
I don’t know about any background services; it’s their cloud gaming service. It would be a benefit for the people who want to switch to Linux but have a game or two they want to play that can’t be run on Linux, because of things like kernel level anti-cheat or whatnot.
I think it’s also a great option for games that don’t run well on the steam deck due to lacking performance.
After how many years? They can fuck right off.
I’d like to try to think of this as Nvidia making a step in the right direction. But given their track record and complete disregard for anything consumer facing a this point, I’m willing to bet this is more so them getting up to speed on hosting apps in the cloud running on Nvidia hardware in Linux environments rather than juicing up the existing consumer facing appliances and products (edit, and future products?).
