Back in the day, the soviets wanted to make a film spectacular version of ‘War And Peace.’ They trained literally thousands of Red Army troops in authentic era military tactics. For this movie they recreated the feild of battle as well as they could, using period sources.
I don’t remember if it’s in this clip, but there’s a scene in the movie where Napoleon is screaming about the general sending in cavalry without infantry to support it.

Did this really happen? They sent the calvary to mill around the squares accomplishing nothing?
