The people who needed to be convinced think the New York Times is globalist propaganda. If they even noticed the existence of this article they would assume it was a made up smear campaign against Dear Leader.

Also, our media (even the “liberal media”) is part of the problem. For example, they did such a terrible job explaining Trump’s attempts to steal the 2020 election that to this day even many anti-Trump Americans don’t understand how fucked up it was.

The primary blame is on the sociopaths in charge and the troglodytes who voted them in, but there is plenty of guilt to go around.

My folks didn’t even know the fake elector story until Liz Cheney’s book came out. That was Dec 2023

60 Minutes didn’t cover fake electors until Feb 2024.

Like it or not, this is likely on par with the experience of tens of millions of American voters.

Totally agreed, media failed to present the full scope of the conspiracy and did it way too fucking late.

The biggest lie of them all is the “Liberal” in liberal media

All American media is essentially fascist, they’ve proven this beyond a doubt

If there were even a HINT of an ALLEGATION that Biden or Obama were party to INFANTICIDE they would have burned DC to the ground. Now all the US media outlets are just participating in the damage control operation

It’s an exaggeration at least, but it’s true that the regime friendly billionaire class has a lot of influence over some extremely popular media channels. The firings and changes made in Washington Post and more recently CBS are interesting case studies.

And of course many newsrooms make questionable decisions even if they are not fascist. I have little to no respect left for the New York Times, but I still believe they’re independent enough and have enough talented staff to produce important journalism.

          ProPublica is the bees knees.

I don’t recall the media covering the fake electors of the Jan 6 coup hardly at all. The media loved to cover the big violent crowd becaus it was flashy. However, the fake elector scheme was the more significant crisis in my mind. That showed a planned and coordinated effort by people in power to subvert democracy.

I think this is getting to the core of how Trump has been so successful. Every important story is drowned out by an endless flood of shit. Good journalism still exists, but it has gotten almost impossible to find as news channels rush to cover the latest distraction Trump is up to. The real stories drown in the bullshit.

Long story short I think it’s possible to pay attention and nevertheless miss out on important stories, due to the fundamental flaws of the information ecosystem. It’s really only necessary to write one story about something like this, but whatever Trump is up to gets a new story every hour.

No, the people who needed to be convinced were the on-the-fence independents who stupidly thought they’d get a better economy under “Trump the successful businessman” than Kamala “Joe Biden 2.0 Harris.” They’re the ones who dismissed Trump’s stated plans as bluster; the people you’re talking about knew he wasn’t joking and were counting on it.

So…. I am going to express my opinion that Trumpism is merely the latest, not so different, expression of American capitalism that has always been this nasty and poisonous. And this includes the raids and round ups currently in the news.

There are some things that changed: the targets and oppressed have changed for some. The messaging has changed.

It’s a fad. This will fade soon enough, and things will still be bad. The good guys will be elected and clean up some of the stuff, but most of what they do will be ineffective. And then the next bad guy will come to power

Who are the “good guys”? The only remotely non-evil person who had a serious bid for president is Sanders, the rest are straight up pieces of shit who bankroll genocides, bomb civilians, and empower their billionaire donors. Even then, Sanders is ineffective, somewhat zionist, and old, and I don’t see a viable young replacement even for someone like him.

In the US, the political mainstream isn’t “good guys vs bad guys”, it’s 80% hitler vs 100% hitler.

In 2024, everything was already laid out for everybody to see clear as day - Trump1.0, MAGA’s behavior since 2021, Project 2025…

BTW, in 2016, both Mary Trump and Tony Schwartz predicted Jan 6 21: “If he loses the next election, he won’t go willingly.”

Ever since Jan 6 21 it’s been crystal clear where this goes if he wins again.

Our current situation really is the culmination of almost 70 years of rightwing efforts. It’s a long listen but worth checking out How Conservatism Won by Robert Evans. He lays out in a clear concise way “how a consortium of rich failsons got together to fund a network of right wing think tanks and shift American culture in a fun new direction. (note: it was not actually fun at all).” They’ve been very successful and those think tanks are now pipelines used to funnel ideological purists into powerful positions like our current Supreme Court.

The shadowy cabals the rightwing says are behind everything is classic projection again, they’re controlled by shadowy cabals of rich people. One of the primary ghouls/traitors responsible for the attempted overthrow of our government on J6 was Roger Stone, the same traitorous ratfucker who began his career working for Nixon and has a fucking Nixon tattoo on his back. It’s really impossible to overstate how bad these people are and they’re winning.

The coup was successful, they’re in power and if they don’t want to give it up they won’t.

Rightoids are unbelievably predictable. Meet one in public and you could guess everything that comes out of their mouth from the very beginning of the conversation

Only actual fucking idiots are unable to realize how predictable rightoids are
