I just messaged them and asked them to invest in their platform and consider the Fediverse. Everyone should reach out to them support@newpress.com and let them know a great way to take the power back is to own your own content.

It would be amazing if they go that route.

Unfortunately I expect they will prioritise profits.

Still, we shouldn’t disgard imperfect allies.

They got back to me and said they’re focused on getting their platform up and running at the moment, but it’s something they’re consider in the future.

While it isn’t a win, it’s not a loss. We’re chipping away. Big Tech will die by a billion cuts, and we will help free others. We just need more folks chipping away.

See someone you might think could help, just reach out and ask. The odds are, it’ll be a no. The odds are it’ll be a maybe later. But those odds are getting better and better daily for us. People are waking up.

Speak out. Help those even hear about it for the first time. We’ll get there. We have 30 years to undo. No better time to start than now.

Glad this was posted here because I thought his script sounded really AI generated (or at least super PR speak). The below quotes really stood out as jarring having heard and read through a lot of AI slop, but the overwhelming praise given throughout the script to the concepts of youtubers and their viewers and finally his new product all also gave me that weird AI deja vu.

1:29 "Soon, the press wasn’t just a press; it was information traveling in waves through the air.

7:35 “Newpress isn’t just another media channel or media company. It’s more of an idea. An idea that journalism can be done differently…”

8:21 “It’s not breaking news; it’s nourishing in-depth journalism that teaches you how the world works.”

I generally enjoy Harris’ content (the bunker video is something I actually sent to a friend and had a whole conversation about - incredible video), so I’m really not trying to be a hater. What I’m actually hating is that picking up on stray deja vu is sometimes the only real way you can know something is AI anymore, and because it’s such a vague reference point I come away with an uneasy feeling about sources like Harris that I would otherwise have been comfortable to treat as trustworthy.

If Johnny Harris wants to help take the Internet back, why is he on YouTube and NOT on Nebula?

If you want to reach people, you need to be where the people are.

For now it’s YouTube and reddit etc. We’ve seen PieFed users spike by making posts on reddit.

Sometimes you got to use the platforms you’re competing with the grow something new

I don’t mind him being on YT. He should just get involved with Nebula too because it’s a significant project with real momentum that’s designed to take the video format back from YT, a big algorithm driven tech company the likes of which he’s complaining about in the video. In essence, he could be practicing AND preaching, but he’s just preaching.
