Something I learned firsthand last year when I married my Senegalese husband.
There are three choices: monogamy, limited polygamy (up to 3 wives), or full polygamy (up to 4 wives). If no option is explicitly selected, polygamy is the legal default. Interestingly, once monogamy or limited polygamy is chosen, the decision is binding and cannot be changed later to allow more wives.
Fun fact: The current President of Senegal, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, openly has two wives!
LOL!.. Will you marry me?.. Then 5 minutes later… Hey guys you look like a cute couple, we just married and allow polygamy, will you both marry us?..6 months later… Hey you, there, in the pants, you’re the last person or marrying age who hasn’t married us, will you do us the honor of marrying us all? Yeah, you can sleep with whoever you want.
There’s no option for a second husband?
Is there social pressure from brides or family to choose monogamy? Can someone have one wife if choosing polygamy? Why would anyone limit future options and chose the binding option of monogamy?
Let me guess, the woman isnt allowed to sleep around?
Oh nonono, its not “sleeping around” if its within the legal framework of polygamy. It’s just utterly misogynistic, since it’s only allowed for men to have multiple wives, but not for women to have multiple husbands. It is based on Islamic precepts.
Islams are dumb sexists
