The place quickly turned into a silo of hand grenade throwing echo chambers. Some hilarious takes by people who have completely lost touch of reality.

If I said this in Bluesky they would just assume I was talking about Truth Social.

One time on Bluesky I made unfortunate contact with a psycho that genuinely believed bigotry could be a good thing “if applied correctly.” It’s basically liberal MAGA over there

I just had that happen. A liberal, declared that its ok to be racist against Middle Easterners (Except Israelis) because they all want to destroy Israel…

Like, my brother in christ, you just said genocide is ok, if it targets whomever you consider “undesirables”…

I keep seeing the echo chamber thing but at this point most social media sites are. Bluesky is just a left leaning one, which is the only thing that really sets it apart.

I mean honestly I think left leaning is basically being neutral and accepting scientific consensus. To me the non federated part of bluesky is kind of what makes me consider it a time bomb. Even if it were good now, we already know one owner switch, hostile takeover, threats from the government etc… can flip a network around faster than you can blink. It’s why I literally see federation as the only way forward for the internet, and find it so ridiculous that everyone bolted to bluesky to escape twitters crash instead of mastadon. It’s the same key problem. it can go down in moments.

Maybe im missing something. Mastadon doesn’t work at all like Twitter or bluesky. In haven’t used it in a couple years though, blsky has a discover feed where you can sew accounts you aren’t following. When i was using it, Mastodon only shows posts from people you follow.

I mean, going to be straight I’ve never used twitter or bluesky, and made a mastadon account like 5 minutes ago to test. Looks to me like the homepage is just things you follow, but there’s trending page to view top posts, hashtags etc… Which to my knowledge is kind of what twitter was supposed to do (minus Elon pushing all his posts onto your home feed no matter how many times you try to stop it).

Yup, pretty much. Honestly I’m not even sure I would join a social media platform where I would have to read the thoughts of uneducated, unfiltered morons who probably should be sterile and cut off from the internet.

I wouldn’t say it’s left leaning… Its definitely liberal leaning. Which almost makes it more insufferable than a conservative lean sight.

I do like the idea of more competition to reddit here but we’ll see how well it does. I know bluesky is considered like fauxfediverse but it’s better than nothing as far as mainstream apps go.

Weirdly, fediverse might be more viable if it’s a bunch of corporations fighting for control. They have money for ads, prob wont shut down due to an influx of too many users and lack of moderation. (or they will like digg, but that was more because they got a bunch of liberal tech nerds instead of the maga, aihype, wsb crowd they were pushing for)

woof. Why can’t platforms just be themselves.

Also, Twitter tried this under Elon and recently changed their minds after, I assume, it didn’t work out like they had hoped?

I get why there was a niche for Bluesky after X was purchased by a Nazi, but the Twitter UI/community/content was always trash to begin with. It wasn’t worth replacing. It’s the TikTok of text-based social media.

I would like to be able to navigate up a comment chain. Sometimes, people will reply to an old comment I’ve made and I can’t figure out which one it was. Is this some quirk of twitter that got brought over to bsky?

I’m not sure about that implementation, but this certainly sounds clever. Especially if they can roll it out before Facebook manages to do the same thing.

Now whether this will be used for scraping AI data, or whether it will be a privacy disaster in the long run, remains to be seen.
