USA is moraly and ethicaly bankrupt. It has become a real danger to the free world. It runs on credit & it gobbles up the planet’s resources.

My crystal ball still refuses to work, but this shit has got to end somehow, since incompetence has also taken over and that is the real destroyer of nations.

unfortunately it’s not gonna pop soon, the amount of companies throwing money at AI is still pretty crazy. Can imagine some hardware side popping but software is still strong.

that is the thing: it shouldnt need to pop if we did it right.

it would be amazing if AI was used practically for what its best at. and not shoe horned into the failure it currently is becoming.

and as a result its been vilified like plastic. so much potential to do good…so much misuse by fuckwits to make it a failure.

You’re mistaking the bubble for the technology itself. AI can be and is used to good things, but the bubble is about the bad stuff. The whole idea of a bubble like this is that we over inflated something too quickly and too much to a point where it isn’t a good stable growth and the only way to stop that is for the bubble to burst. In modern-ish society there just won’t be a letting out of “air” to stabilise the bubble, there won’t even be a slowing of filling it until it bursts. When everything is about infinite growth and something new comes along we’ll always jump on that pump and fill the bubble as rapidly as we can and completely ignore any long term plan and consequences, because money and power.

No no he’s right. If it wasn’t used to surveil people, control narratives through manipulation, used as an excuse to reduce headcount, used as an excuse to commit war crimes, used as an excuse to steal computing from the masses, used to create false evidence, used as an excuse to discount any actual damning evidence, built upon the stolen collective works of all of humanity, and sucking up all the natural resources around it and replacing it with drought, noise, and pollution in order to brute-force power it because those who need it for all the above things need it NOW or else they won’t fucking get away with it

        Yeah it might be good.

The issue is that the downsides are massive and the upsides pretty mid.

Oh look, I can whip up a pretty generic website or utility from natural language. That’s… something I guess… The more… ambitious applications of CodeGen I’ve found to be “different” rather than “better”, a different huge pain in the ass than the usual huge pain in the ass, and it’s a matter of taste which one someone prefers, and I don’t think the “All-in Agentic” flow actually is any faster when you get at this “pain in the ass” point.

On the downside, well pretty much his whole post.

Note that this specifically is the GenAI stuff, broader AI like machine vision is arguable more balanced (intrusive surveillance, but also useful for medical imaging, spotting wildfires early, stuff like that).

So I guess the concern is that by saying “if not for all the bad, it could be pretty good” may be fine, but in practice is used to provide cover for a lot of the bad, because they would argue to not risk throwing out the baby with the bathwater.

I don’t buy the Epstein files distraction, because it’s pretty clear the US public don’t give a shit. What would the Epstein files even prove?

You could release an authentic video of Trump fucking an 8 year old and then throwing the lifeless body down a laundry chute and most Yanks would just shrug and say “whaddaguy”. Hell, if the kid was an immigrant’s, his ratings would probably go up.

There is nothing in the Epstein files that could possibly touch Trump. It’s all already priced in and you elected him anyway.

The more crises that happen simultaneously, the more likely it is that they all hit harder.

If AI was the only problem, then AI could just have a slight dip and recover. But since the global economy is getting hit from all sides at the same time… that’s when each individual part doesn’t have anything to fall back on. So each part is going to dip lower than it would have otherwise.

“Folks, we’re gonna have a great depression. No really, it’s gonna be great. Some people say it will be the greatest. It’s gonna be tremendous. Like no one has ever seen before. Sleepy Joe Biden couldn’t do it! Horrible administration… and they stole the election. They said it couldn’t be done, but we have some great folks who put their great minds together to make it happen. Only this administration’s tremendous willpower could have done this. No one else in history… they said the 1930’s had a Great Depression… it was weak, pathetic, orchestrated by the deep state democrats. We’re gonna show them how it’s done, folks. No Great Depression has been or will ever be greater than this one. I’m telling you folks, this one will go down in history!”
