The agreement to release oil stocks comes amid growing concerns in Brussels about entering winter with low strategic reserves, and becoming more susceptible to what several EU officials described as US “blackmail”.

The way I understand the deal is that it’s no great concession to release some diesel reserves over a winter with high diesel prices.

But it’s disconcerting that it’s done at the behest and benefit of US internal politics to cover for shitty US international politics.

When the US reneges on any long term deal, I sure hope the EU got their worth in a short term deal.

Europe runs out soon and the us reveals millions of barrels left in their own reserve that they’d sell to the eu for $250/barrel.

Man, I really hope the US gets to enjoy its cheaper fuel prices. Thank God our prices are so low that we can easily stomach this.

For reference, our prices in my area would currently be $9.44 per gallon. That is down from $10.16 last week.

Fuck Trump with a rusty old crowbar!

If i ever meet a person who voted for trump, I’ll tell them to fuck off. If they say they regret it, I’ll still tell them to fuck off. Kind of like these criminals who regret what they did after they were caught (Maxwell), they know what they’re doing, and goes back in it if it hits them back.

“Oh, I’m sorry, you honour, I didn’t mean to do it” might work in the USA, but not in Europe. We will never forget this backstabbing.

If I ever meet a Trump voter, I will buy a bar. I’ll invite them over on opening day and ask them what they want to drink. Once they order, I will tell them “we don’t serve your kind here”

I can sort of see the how someone got suckered in to voting for Trump in 2016, a new radical face promising change vs a generic and unlikeble deeply entrenched democrat with no real promise for real change.

At some point you get tired enough to say “fuck it” and vote for the weird newcommer, in the hopes that something good would come our of it, or simply to send the one kind of protest that the dems would have a very hard time to ignore.

I can see that happening, but the 2024 election? Anyone voting for Trump deserves an instant hard face punch.

Keep in mind that the U.S. Republican party has been actively undermining their education system for decades as one of the many ways to trick voters into believing their lies. For many of the people who voted red, they were conned and manipulated their whole life into doing so. It doesn’t excuse their past actions, but those who see their own wrongs and wish to work to correct them should be given the chance to do so.

… Might work in the USA, but not in Europe.

If that was the case, the entirety of the German population would have been executed following World War 2 for letting Hitler take power. I know that’s an exaggeration but the “Hitler Youth” were brainwashed into supporting him through their childhood, and the USA Republican party definitely took note of how to do this.

In the same way that German and Italian fascists were inspired by American politics, the Hitler Youth were modeled on the Boy Scouts and many former Boy Scouts don’t love it when you point this out (ask me how I know).

I don’t know, maybe they’ll slow walk it, but the pressure on governments is really high here too, because of the insane price of fuel. They’re enacting widespread subsidies on fuel, which is costing the taxpayer a shitload of money. And about 50-70% the oil companies take for themselves.

Anyway, did I mention that currently BEVs are pretty much the only cars being sold right now? We just got ours yesterday. It’s very nice. Don’t think we’ll ever go back.

Now, it’s just the natural gas heating (house owner already has plans for heat pump) and high-as-fuck prices of everything that we need to deal with.

I vote that trump compensates us for the money he is costing us Europeans being so shit at his job!

Make sure the heat pump is a ground-source one if you get real winters. Otherwise it’s only good for supplementary heating in the dead of winter unless it’s super overpowered for the size of the house. Mine is air since I got it mostly for cooling in the summer, it does the job in spring and autumn so I don’t have to burn any wood, but throwing 300€ a month at it only accounts for about a fifth of the heating effort in the cold part of the winter, need another ~400-500€ worth of firewood or briquettes to make up for the rest of it. Air to Water has a similar weakness as Air to Air and while those usually have resistive heating as a backup, that’ll quickly get you into 1000+ euro electric bill territory in the winter.

And about 50-70% the oil companies take for themselves.

A totally predictable consequence of subsidies in a situation where supply is fundamentally limited.

well no then you still need the electricity

which is going to take a couple of decades and that is if China is willing to sell the materials

Yeah, but fundamentally it’s much less volatile and dependent. Wind energy is a local industry, but solar is dependent on China, that’s true.

That doesn’t matter, it’ll lower prices for everybody BUT the US because oil companies like fucking us without… Well, oil…

The US is already enjoying cheap fuel so it doesn’t matter much anyway, but generally speaking, oil is at least a global enough market that you guys will get even cheaper fuel.
