    Basically, wait and see

If Dems actually get into action and go full Mamdani - exciting and inspiring, finally a massive hit to the authoritarian evil.

If they keep on giving up every bit of ground - not so much.

Until we actually get rid of the problem, no one should trust us. As long as conservatives continue to live, they will work hard to oppress everyone around them. Allowing the traitors to live in 1865 led to this. Unless we finish Sherman’s work, conservatives will slither right back into power, and next time it will be MUCH worse.

We need to properly finish our civil war and completely cleanse our house of the cockroaches that cause fascism. And that’s just the first step in earning the trust of our former allies.

I can’t speak for the whole of Canada, let alone the world, but as far as I’m concerned as long as one monstrous Republican shill still draws breath and sits in Congress, it will never be safe to trust America. If it’s so easy for America to fall to fascism once, it can and will fall again until there is massive systemic reform. It will be a generation before people like me are willing to put the past behind us. You are still engaged in illegal wars, holding foreign heads of state hostage, keeping refugees in internment camps and every masked ice agent still walks freely on your streets.

Talk to me when the Dems actually do something about the incalculable harm America has done to the world. Boycott, divest, and sanction, for all genocidal rogue states, America included.

    Don’t trust us.

We put this fuckface in power twice, and did absolutely nothing effective to stop him for TWO YEARS of his second round, even with the countless easily impeachable offenses he committed and bragged about on public television.

Make that trust need to be earned back.

As a Canadian, its a good start, but I’m not holding my breath. I’ll start buying American products again when you start putting your money where you mouth is.

The Tarrifs and cheetos need to go as a start, but you’ve really lost a lot of respect and trust around the world, and that’s gonna take a lot to get back.

America has a systemic issue, they were handed the tools to start fixing it. Abolishing the electoral college should be doable now for example. Also lying to congressional committees should carry a penalty.

I’ll see after the next presidential election if they’re worth forgiving.

We’re a schizophrenic in a period of lucidity. That doesn’t mean you should trust us around the sharp objects.

I still wouldn’t trust them, glad to see the Trumpists fail but I feel like Trump is more of a symptom.

None of it matters if Schumer and Jefferies keep leadership

None of it matters if the Democrats don’t make meaningful change.

None of it matters if people change their minds in 2 years and go right back to red.

It will take a lot longer than 1 week for the world to warm up to America again.

I agree with your points and I’m also not American. Just prefacing to make clear I’m not arguing, just trying to spread hope. I saw a petition yesterday morning that was already at half a million signatures demanding Jeffries not be made speaker. The speed it grew indicates to me there’s weight behind it. Kinda like posts, comments, and upvotes; there are way more lurkers who are agreeing silently. (I’m not an LLM, I just like semicolons. Even if I’m not always 100% sure I’ve used it correctly).
