Reuters reports that around 100 people made it into the construction site, with some scaling a crane to place a “fuck AI” banner. Protesters also unfurled a “Microsoft powers genocide” banner on the construction site, and chanted “Microsoft has got to go” and “free Palestine.”

I’m not unsympathetic to their cause, but I do expect that each and every one of these protesters then also boycotts all of Microsoft’s products; otherwise it would be hypocritical. In the end, that, if done en masse, will hit them harder than some banners…

I demand perfection, pluck out your eyes

If people routinely break into construction sites, it puts their insurance, security, etc costs up significantly. In the UK factory’s that made parts for drones ended up shutting down over rising insurance costs.

demonstrations with signs and chants in the street are the simplest form of protest and ideally would be the only one necessary. if they’re not backed-up by the threat of more disruptive and direct action, they’re toothless and ineffective. protesting is the whole thing, and since the power systems don’t usually give a shit to the first and kinder stages of protesting, it becomes necessary to venture into the realm of “cRiMe”

the definition of crime is arbitrary and subject to change and not really relevant to the definition of protest

To be fair, there are protests around the world about everything from social inequality to datacenters.

It has zero effect on decisions being made. So at some point, people will actually have to do something and not just stand around with banners.

Its necessary since current leaders don’t fear the people and in fact are laughing at them.

Actual change comes from people having enough power to say no more. This is a fact, and it’s needed in this very special time when peoples wishes are ignored completely.

The standing around with banners is supposed to carry an implicit threat:
“Deal amicably with us peaceful protesters, or you’re going to have to deal with people taking direct action.”

We’ve been educated to misunderstand this.

yeah, banners are just messaging. nobody in power is gonna change shit if you only stand around demanding change. the threat behind a demand is what’s effecting change.

It also pisses people off sometimes: “Ugh… Protesters again, now my commute will take 15min longer, what the fuck is wrong with these people… GO TO WORK FUCKING HIPPIES!” As if they were part of the upper class lol, I like how gary from gary’s economics explains it, you are not part of the elite, policies that benefit the elite hurt you, as resources are limited wealth has to come from somewhere, if the rich are getting richer faster that means you also go poor faster

and its very easy to ignore our neighbors suffering simply because it takes a damn massive crash for us all to come together in today’s hyper individualistic consumer societies. Thank the stars for all the incompetent epstein class parasites making things bad real fast for many or we would all still be hyper focused on transgender bathroom rights while the house burns down around us. These problems are not unique to the USA just on full display, loud and proud.

It’s the same everywhere in the west I think. We are fighting eachother instead of grouping up.

If there was a political party who represented sane human values, I would support it. But today it seems the majority of humans are very confused and don’t know what is right and wrong anymore.

protest breaking your nuts but don’t protest breaking the artificial billionaire bubble , you will lose your jobs and be happy to own nothing, Keep paying taxes while I cut services and take your jobs, no health care for you but have a nice data center , don’t forget a bucket.
