      “is it on F-DROID” probably isn’t a great way to tell whether something is open source

      That’s strange - it was uploaded to F-droid the day it was released. I have it installed from there and it works like a charm.

        I would guess Threads has a very different target audience, namely younger users who couldn’t care less about privacy. I don’t think there will be that much direct competition between the two.
