I know they roughly explained why, but it seems pretty insane they jumped the gun without having any of the users input and want people to go to another instance just for that community
I think it is very well explained. You don’t need to go to other instance to follow them.
They are just merging with another community for convenience.
I don’t get why are you so upset. It’s not a big deal.
Also, you can create your own community in any instance you want.
Send me a link please. I’m kinda slow learning lemmy.
“I don’t get why are you so upset. It’s not a big deal.”
first off I’m not? I’m just confused why the entire modteam just refused to get everyone’s input and did what they wanted anyway which is why people left reddit in the first place.
Second, it’s not convenient to just close a community without anyone’s knowledge and punish the users who don’t want to move so suddenly.
“I’m not upset, I’m just using the same words upset people use”
You don’t have to move your account. You can subscribe to the other community on the other instance from your existing account. That’s the beauty of the Fediverse.
Unless you’re on Kbin, which is not federated.
Your first point…I’m sorry, it just looks like a classic “strawman”. All I will say is that there are many reasons to leave reddit, but this particular argument fails on a simple premise: # most of the time, users upset with specific mods likely did not leave reddit, but rather just created new subreddits in direct competition. But there is no singular reason to leave reddit; even so, the most popular reason currently is something entirely different.
Second, the community explicitly was not closed; it was relocated. As others have pointed out already, this does not remove or restrict your access in any meaningful way.
Last but not least, there reasons are very clearly and directly communicated. I see no fault with their reasoning, or the action they took.
Part of the beauty of Lemmy is fracturing intentionally into smaller instances. The content is no less accessable to people who want it, and it’ll hopefully provide a better, more reliable experience by being off lemmy.world on a smaller instance.
I believe many are trying to help reduce the load in lemmy.world, where most new users (including myself) started.
Kinda just sounded like Lemdroid was a better fit for them. I’m already subscribed, the fediverse is awesome.

I don’t agree with their decision but I understand their reasons. Probably the new instance is more suitable for the community, however they were growing in one of the biggest Lemmy instances. I think the best they could’ve done was to ask the community. Despite of that, I expect the android community to continue growing as it was before moving.
I can understand that instead of the others commenting, but I don’t really agree with the idea of them arbitrarily deciding they can do whatever they want with the community and punish the users who weren’t aware of that and don’t want to move and or check to another place.
Seems a bit barbaric and awkwardtheturtle esk imo to just do a bunch of stuff without asking the community if they’d like to switch, they just decided “no we’re going to close and you’re gonna like it” essentially lol
Maybe Lemmy isn’t for you.

How is it punishing users? Literally all you need to do is click subscribe in the new community and nothing will be different.
If you don’t like the way they run their community, you’re free to start your own or even your own instance, that’s the beauty of federation
It’s a good move. Having users and posts spread out over different communities isn’t good. Especially when it’s a niche community.
(There are three OpenTTD communities. None of them will be compelling when it’s all split up.)
“we’re keen to avoid unnecessary fragmentation for existing members and confusion for any newcomers.”
ah yes because locking the entire community without anyone’s knowledge and consent first isn’t totally insane and like a certain other platform we left from
They don’t owe you anything. Their reasons are very clear. Feel free to subscribe to the other channel.
It takes less than five seconds to unsub from the old community and sub to the new one. Job done.
You are here in bad faith. You’re not asking a question you just want to vent.
