Chinese carmakers have urged Beijing to adopt the “most severe measures”, including a tax of 25% on European Union-made cars with large engines, in response to Brussels’ tariffs on electric vehicles made in China, a report said Wednesday.
That would be good, but it should rampup exponentally the heavier the vehicle is. So say a 3000lb vehicle is 50% tax, a 6000lb vehicle should be MUCH higher, maybe 500% or so. Make it really worth while to reduce weight, which is of course the number one issue for the safety of people outside of the car.
I agree. Cars should be taxed by weight. The heavier the vehicle the more wear and tear it causes to the infrastructure, and also the deadlier it is in a collusion.
How about a 1% tax for every 100lbs the vehicle weighs.

But add an exception for EVs since they’re heavier. We need cheaper EVs, not more expensive ones.
Cars go heavier but carrying the same number of passengers. Something ain’t right.
