I was in the emergency room in early July once and it was full of guys with ice packs on their hands. It wasn’t even the fourth.

Does it make me a bad person to hope that the little shits setting off fireworks until 2am from mid-June through September blow at least one finger off?

Americans light fireworks for 4th of July. Sometimes when getting a little brave they hold them in their hands before throwing them, leading to damaged fingers

It’s our independence day, and we traditionally shoot off lots of fireworks.

Lots of fireworks (+ alcohol, + people trying to show off) winds up with some people losing digits.

I worked at a hospital that would keep a record of lost fingers every 4th of July from fireworks accidents. It was always amazing how many people blow off a finger every year! There is a popular place in the areas south of Seattle, near Native American Reservations (they don’t have the same laws on the rez so they sell illegal fireworks) to buy fireworks and within half a mile and 20 minutes apart two people blew their fingers off one year.

    NSFL NSFL NSFL

NSFL description and a link to a footage of a very morbid accident from reddit

There’s a video that’s still imprinted on my memory that serves as a succint symbol of all these completely avoidable incidents: a guy on the hill blows his hand off but he’s that morbidly drunk he repeatedly throws it into the sky like ‘Hell yeah!’ while others are completely shocked and try to help him climb down. https://old.reddit.com/r/CrazyFuckingVideos/comments/v25y3o/warning_firework_blows_dudes_hand_off_all_angles/

I’ve seen a couple of minor accidents myself and I don’t really like fireworks that just blow up and\or without a fuse. I don’t trust their producers in the price range that’s usually affordable to my peers. That thing being completely delegated to pros with expertise (and a full set of limbs) isn’t bad at all, and they usually do pyrotechnics when and where hundreds of people can si,ultaniously enjoy them, unlike a fingerbomb one can ignite on the street.

It can also be context-specific. Sometimes the L can stand for “Lunch”, for videos you shouldn’t watch while eating or might otherwise trigger a gag reflex (gore, pimple popping, anything with creepy crawlies, etc).

Before reading the text, I thought this was a reference to supreme court uncle ruckus looking to abolish OSHA.

Anyone here with good knowledge on how to do remote/distanced firework ignitions?

I’m aware of the ematch + nailboard setup… The same should be doable with a switchboard, long wires, ematches, and a 12V battery, right?
