U.S. auto safety regulators say they stand by a conclusion that more than 50 million air bag inflators are dangerous and should not be in use, taking another step toward a massive recall.

The decision Wednesday by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration involves inflators made by ARC Automotive Inc. in Tennessee and another parts manufacturer. It comes despite opposition from automakers.

The inflators in about 49 million vehicles from 13 manufacturers can explode and hurl shrapnel into drivers and passengers.

The agency has said the inflators are responsible for at least seven injuries and two deaths in the United States and Canada since 2009.

If you are worried that this issue might affect your or your vehicle…

A complete list of vehicles with the inflators has not been released.

Other articles have stated that ARC inflators were used in vehicles from the 2002-2018 model years. And were used vehicles made by “BMW, Stellantis, Ford, General Motors, Hyundai, Jaguar-Land Rover, Kia, Maserati, Mercedes, Porsche, Tesla, Toyota, and Volkswagen”

Good luck getting a recall resolved though. I went into my local Chrysler dealer just to have them check something and have a recall resolved and there was a 1 month waiting list to get in line and they said they would need the vehicle for a week sitting in the lot waiting for a slot to open. And they did not guarantee that time frame. I would be out of my vehicle for over a month just for diagnostics then there was a longer wait to fix it if needed. Vehicle recalls need to cost a company some pain so they stop making such shitty cars because they will just drag their feet and many people won’t have the recall fixed.

Much of that is going to be dealer specific. My experience and the experience of people I know was pretty good. Including providing a free loaner car for the duration of the recall service.

Literally never had that issue with Mazda. But then again, that’s not a Stellantis company and, so far, they still seem to have a great sense of honor. We schedule a recall service and it’s performed same day. We get offered a loaner if needed.
