I was waiting for Sync, and just signed up for my Lemmy account today because of it and I can imagine that there are a decent amount of people doing the same. I have no idea as for the actual metrics, just based on seeing relevant posts.
As for the criticisms of the ad portion of the app, I’m happy to ensure a sustainable way the app/site can continue as long as it’s clearly communicated and transparent. And I would imagine the dev would have an option for a one time payment to avoid ads, as per the original Sync.

There’s 3 teirs of sync ultra one being a forever one. Still a bit pricey for me tho. I personally don’t mind the ads
There is now a lifetime option to remove the ads. Bit too expensive for me though, so I’ll live with the ads or use Jerboa.
