I try to curate zines from around the world into local exhibitions, do hand translating alongside if need be, imitate the original paper best I can.
It’s kinda fun lol. That and kinda similarly, but I love♡ spending time on online software radio sites, just listening into different channels like I was there myself.
I miss the Car Talk days of NPR, just on my commute to night class today I get to hear them make the statement “Democrats shut down the government.”
God this shit is disheartening.
If that’s what you’re facing, maybe try thinking of it like you’re trying to get to know them a little. If you start talking about say, your recent effort to make sambal oelek for use in say noodles, asking if they’re familiar with the name, talk about how it has some origin in French cooking from the colonial period, add some info about how you like to use it etc.
Like if I’m ordering food, I’ll always go for the full pronunciation, then maybe follow up with the server or whoever asking if it’s the dish with this or that main focus.
I also love having fun with themed dinner parties with friends and the such, give full presentation on the pronunciation, it’s history in different areas that make it slightly different, give everyone a copy of the recipe (minus a few key but subtle ingredients lol) in both the original language and English.
All in all I say just try to make it a chance to be enjoyed one way or another and it doesn’t take long to get your confidence flowing lol. I totally empathize, I used to be absolutely mortified about the same thing, still do sometimes, just less so these days.
I would say absolutely in the general sense nost people, and the salesmen, frame them in.
When I was invited to assist with the GDC development, I got a chance to partner with a few AI developers and see the development process firsthand, try my hand at it myself, and get my hands on a few low parameter models for my own personal use. It’s really interesting just how capable some models are in their specific use-cases. However, even high param. models easily become useless at the drop of a hat.
I found the best case, one that’s rarely done mind you, is integrate the model into a program that has the ability to call a known database. With a properly trained model to format output in both natural language and use a given database for context calls, and concrete information, the qualitative performance leaps ahead by bounds. Problem is, that requires so much customization it pretty much ends up being something a capable hobbyist would do, it’s just not economically sound for a business to adopt.
Honestly it’s mostly unconscious for me, the brain just does it’s thing sometimes.
Few of my personal favorites: “I’m disappointed in you” “You don’t have to be your parents you know” “Is this what you do with your free time?”
So I’m going to toot my own horn here lmao but personally? Mine lol. Sure, technically doesn’t precisely fit the bill for 20 years, given it’s changed domains, content and the such while I was ironing out my interests in life and future expectations.
But I’ve had variations of the site for different projects, purposes, employment needs, and more recently the whole starting my own organization thing lol. All in all however, I’d compare it to those 3 generation soups that are a big selling point in family shops throughout the Asiatic, sure nothing of the original exists per se, but the spirit is there.
I do have such a soft spot for the old ascii and plaintext site design, I’ve never really left the scheme since I first learned html. To me, the more basic a site has made it’s web design the more likely I am to trust it. Something about corporate web design just never sits right with me.
Lmao sure there are folks with all kinds of expectations of relationships, but that’s part of the fun of getting to know someone.
I’ve personally seen things from many sides, my exes have been first generation Americans, deeply religious one way or another, girly-pop fanatics or outright amazonian greasemonkeys. Way I see it, enjoy the process of meeting someone new, enriching your life and or course you enriching theirs.
Of course being online alot doesn’t do you any favors, try dropping into a few mixers, ask friends to set you up with someone, just put yourself out there and see what sticks.
I’ll always be a major proponent of voting. I make it a priority to try and work the polls when I can.
But damn, does voting with your wallet work every time. From civil rights to free speech, it just works.
So you know, the next obvious step is to really kick them in the balls and outright replace their businesses on the free market. Bit harder a step but the real ultimate irony would be a resurgence of local communities stepping up utilitization of rebroadcast stations to better inform their populations and improve overall broadcast standards by ensuring proper “free market discourse” as they so often put it.
Oh the ag. collapse could be, at the very least, interesting.
Bad enough that the lions share of the industry will need major handouts, or more likely that farm after farm will be bought out for land-lease to former owners, and then given handouts to offset purchase price. But, the midwest corporate cash crop farms have been fighting tooth and nail against soil conservation methods just to squeeze a few extra bucks out.
I so hope we don’t end up getting into another dust bowl.
I’d highly recommend folks look at keeping up a community garden or two if possible, or helping out at one if not.

Private industry costs three bucks to do what public does for one.
The Department of Defense War hasn’t passed an audit for 8 years straight, high percentage of contract deliverables being immediately retired, resold domestically, or outright never delivered.
Of course they’re going to stuff their pockets as much as possible. It’s the only thing they’re actually able to do, and barely competently at that.
Modern internet for you.
It may be far from perfect, but it’s why I have such a soft spot for alternative to modern social media. If I’m going to put my through a slog of keeping these sorts of official social media accounts ip and running, I might as well make it a nicer experience.
Best part: the better names in the alt os and device scenes don’t sell in us markets.
Unless you do the legwork of flashing your own device, most of us are out of luck.

Easy points to start with. Generally, keeping a neutral view on something new, and striving to maintain a trust but verify attitude is your absolute best bet. The more you understand global politics, especially current agendas of various nations, political groups, etc. can help to discern one bias or another. In general, giving yourself room and time to properly process any information you encounter, and especially destress yourself, makes a huge difference.
I once had a conversation about economics with a different person. Just something clicked in some other guy and sent them down a spiral.
Nope, language models by inherent nature, xannot be used to calculate. Sure theoretically you could have input parsed, with proper training, to find specific variables, input those to a database and have that data mathematically transformed back into language data.
No LLMs do actual math, they only produce the most likely output to a given input based on trained data. If I input: What is 1 plus 1?
Then given the model, most likely has trained repetition on an answer to follow that being 1 + 1 = 2, that will be the output. If it was trained on data that was 1 + 1 = 5, then that would be the output.

Still make mixtapes the old fashioned way for my partner (corny lol I know) and I buy the occasional remaster at a local thrift shop, or the old baked out hippie running a music / instrument shop.
