  • Yes. A shotgun was fired through the door at the officers, prompting the request for “cover”. Luckily, no one was injured as there were kids inside. This except comes from the Army War College in Pennsylvania.

Police officers responded to a domestic dispute, accompanied by marines. They had just gone up to the door when two shotgun birdshot rounds were fired through the door, hitting the officers. One yelled cover me!’ to the marines, who then laid down a heavy base of fire. . . . The police officer had not meant ‘shoot’ when he yelled ‘cover me’ to the marines. [He] meant . . . point your weapons and be prepared to respond if necessary. However, the marines responded instantly in the precise way they had been trained, where ‘cover me’ means provide me with cover using firepower. . . . over two hundred bullets [were] fired into that house."[1]

  • Well, ready to sounds similar to passive suicidal ideation. Example: you question if you would be motivated to jump out of the way of an oncoming car or accept it.

By mentally prepared I mean that you have an understanding of your own mortality and accept that life will end at some point without having mental or emotional stress at the thought(s).

Edit: Passive Suicidal Ideation is a sign that assistance may be needed. Anyone struggling with this please reach out to a therapist, memorize your prevention hotline, or throw out other lifelines. I had my struggle, but I will continue because I must. I can’t rely on others to remember those important to me, or mourn them as they deserve.

  • Welcome to war, where human rights are optional and at the discretion of a select few. People will cheer for death like it’s a gladitorial arena, while others act to mitigate as much suffering as possible. Still others will turn away in disgust and become recluse. No answer is correct; at least until the victor writes the history.

My only (personal) recouse is to focus on my impact at a community level, and hope that I get enough power, money, or influence to eventually do more.

  • I’m willing to be one counterexample in the sea. I am absolutely benefiting from both past American imperialism and the current sales of arms that keeps allowing more atrocities. I used to feel guilt about it, but that didn’t solve anything; neither did staying silent. If all the other loud, noisy, opinionated people in my country can’t keep their mouths shut, I view it as a minor responsibility to at least make them use critical thinking (if possible). I’m saving your comment to show people irl. Hope you stay safe.

  • Well, hard water means it could be Ca+2 or Mg+2 ions, but it doesn’t have to be. Any metal or mineral in a “high” concentration (often as a dissolved salt) would make water hard. e.g. Salt water is hard compared to tap standards.

The water for the above user certainly could have been corrosive, or an allergic reaction could be the explanation. With a rural, rock ravine environment, any number of minerals could be in the water. You’re also more likely to get other contaminants like toxins in water not properly tested and treated.
