Why more? Why add an extra layers, more complexity? Why not just ban deposits? The rental contract already covers damages caused by tenants. And it’s not like you pay a €2000 deposit, cause €10.000 worth of damage and not have to pay the additional €8000.
Maybe in the past, with cash payments and paper records. Deposits added a layer or security. But does that still hold true today? I’m sure landlords will disagree.
If the landlord believes the tenant left the property in a damaged state, they can enforce the contract. Upside is that it’s not worth it to sue for trivial shit like nail holes or greasy stove vacuums. Now the tenants are always on the backfoot, spending money to get their own money back.
Also, the earth will never be in the same place twice. So it’s not even like you can only jump increments of a solar year.
You’re not making a lot of sense. So I see no point in talking any further.
after some years plenty believed it had to do with WMD’s
No, it was very clear it was to get Iraq out of Kuwait after it invaded. Iraq wanted to gain more regional dominance and add Kuwait’s oil reserves to it’s own economy after the costly Iran-Iraq war.
you Canadians
Also not Canadian, the world is a big place
Keanu Reeve’s voice acting is pretty sub-par most of the time. And even in Phantom Liberty, especially in the beginning Female V (played by Cherami Leigh) sounded a bit off, as if she needed to find V’s voice again after how much time was in between the main game and the DLC. But other than that I have to agree, top-notch work. Made in Poland ;)
As a total aside: The baader-meinhof phenomenon at play. Just yesterday I was talking about Lain Banks because his work was quoted in a video game. And here he shows up again.
I think you need to brush up on your history. And who is “you”? I’m not even American my friend.
My on-line persona, my work persona and home persona are 3 different people. I totally understand OP
And then Trump will rescind the ADA and disability benefits so those unable to (fully) work will become homeless and destitute and die from exposure or police brutality.
Just look at how ppl use their smart speakers. They ask it to set timers or ask for the weather. AI will be the norm once the benefit is obvious to everyone. When I can trust my AI with my credit card info and allow it to purchase stuff for me. Right now AI is basically a self-organizing dictionary which is often confidently incorrect. Not once has GPT told me it didn’t know something.
Hasn’t won any wars with unlimited objectives. Where there is no clear end goal, because regime change and installing a friendly government isn’t really clear and actionable.
The first Gulf War had limited objectives, was a massive success and took only 6 months.
For me the voice is what matters. Male Commander Shepard, Female V.
Good enough to contact one’s consumer organizations or government watchdogs.
Just look at Smart Speakers. Basically the early AI at home. People just used them to set timers and ask about the weather. Even though it was capable of much more. Google and others were unable to monetize them for this reason and have mostly given up. (Protip: if you have a google speaker and kids, ask about the animal of the day. It’s an addition during COVID times for kids learning at home.)
But people also aren’t used to AI yet. Most will still google for something, some already skip that step and have ChatGPT search and summarize. I would not be surprised if the internet of the future is just plain text files for the AI agents to scrape.
That’s all technically correct. That’s how it works in a lot countries, Europe included. But that’s not how it feels, or what people think is going on. They’re paying into a system that is going to benefit them. Even if what they receive is derived from future taxes on other people. They contributed to the system, therefore they are also entitled to benefit from it.
“allegedly costing hundreds of thousands of dollars in losses.” It seems he was already messing with the systems while he was still working there. This is not a case of malicious compliance or they fired the only guy who knew how something worked. He was actively sabotaging the company’s network.
“he apparently became disgruntled by a corporate “realignment” in 2018 that “reduced his responsibilities,”” So it’s not even like the company was being evil as they fired him while he was on PTO to take care of his daughter with leukaemia (or something). He would’ve been better off finding a new job if he was unhappy. Instead he made things far worse.
But 10 years is way too high. Especially for a victimless crime with alleged “values” of loss. But otherwise he gets no sympathy from me.
I thought the whole point of Lemmy was that it didn’t matter what instance you joined. Can I move my account, or do I need to make a new one on a new instance?
“after a bystander broke a window with a tree branch” Ah yes, the bulletproof windows that could double as submergible windows for an unspecified amount of time at an unspecified depth.
