This Is the best response Ive read so far. The only thing id add is that this falls under Epistemology. that word alone IMO is dangerous to any regime.

The news is a propaganda machine designed to output a dual-pronged attack ironically outlined by your post. For skeptics like yourself the constant stream of misinfo will have you fact checking senseless data that you instinctively know to be true or false based on observation, wasting your time. however when presented in the news or by aquaintences It challenges you to correct them, this is a job for a team of the same magnitude as the news stations themselves.
For the indoctrinated Its just a constant echochamber of new info that helps fortify new or previously fabricated info, and gives them talking points to repeat to anyone even minorly skeptical of the regime.
Your experience with your friend IS part of the manipulation. the only way out is to attempt to focus on what is local to you and within your control (dont ignore the macro issues obviously just try not to focus on them). Getting involved with local politics, speak with real people and rather than attacking their facts. Attack their logic, similarly to how you are trying to get your friend understand her bias and where that stems from.
being a victim of propaganda, being religeous, being part of a subculture, having unresloved trauma, having children, never being properly taught logic or Epistemology (edit:this word is so important cant believe i forgot it.), all of these and more contribute to bias.
To answer your question, there are organizations that do fact checking but im also skeptical of those because who watches the watchers? How do they afford to exist? Do the fact checkers have bias themselves? Its a never ending cycle of bullshit.
No doom and gloom though (they want you to feel defeated) because there is still tons to appreciate, so many people are waking up. Lots of individuals attacking “the system” from every possible angle all across the world. All it takes is some mildly uncomfortable conversations with the people you care about, and patience, LOTS of patience.
The world needs tractors and consumer-grade cars. They both have use cases. If what you need is a tractor, and you’re comfortable with the fact that it’s not going to work like a car, then a tractor will do things that are totally impossible with a Hyundai Elantra.
have not considered this perspective, and rolling with the metaphor Linux users are essentially rolling down main street with unsightly tractors telling car people how much better it is owning a tractor. when in reality we should be more honest a tractor is simply not for everyone. that being said I agree Arch fedora and nixos were the most user friendly tractors ive used, and similarly have not tried Bazzite, Steamos or chromeos but im hoping they become the “pickup trucks” of the PC world
by all means wait, I recommend trying it but eventually bazzite, steamos, nixos or fedora will take so much market share that your experience will be indistinguishable from windows or simply better.
Also I agree we all have less time with the state of the world right now but when you solve or even just point out a problem on windows or linux you’re making the experience better for other users. If you want to look at yourself like an upaid beta tester thats fine but id rather be working towards improving the software that is free and open source even if its alot less convenient or simple.
I want to say you’re wrong but damn not 20 mins before reading this did I just type into my search engine [“issue x” Arch wayland gnome nvidia grub] to help narrow down my query to my specific system. I will say that once I do this though Im usually met with pretty much exactly what Im looking for or at least a small group of people working toward a solution. It takes getting used to but Im overall much happier with my experience on Linux because like you said its not a 5050 whether i can fix the problem or not, I CAN but now its all about how much time im willing to invest or the community has already invested. With more people moving everyday I can watch my experience get better and better as the community improves everything.
This was the most confusing thing to me when getting started with linux It was baffling to me that jumping from different distros would completely change how i had to install packages or push me to use flatpak. I genuinely could not wrap my head around how there were no universally accepted binaries between distros. And hes talking about this years ago before recent mass adoption…
I landed on an arch based distro because it seems like they have the most universal solution after jumping around. Curious to know, what distro In your opinion the closest to “getting it right”? Open to all not just @PhilipTheBucket
I dont want chefs to be out of work either.
I am also hoping and waiting for a modchip or exploit. I’m curious to see what the hardware can actually do when its removed from the chains of big N.
Hell Yeah, genuinely felt like everyone around me caved the boycott within a week. Nice to see the few still holding out.
Im also lifetime nintendo fan (since snes), so its easy to be the hater when we know how good they can be. Kinda fucked up that desperation is the biggest source of innovation and good consumer practices.
You seem logical, but I wouldnt blame you if you had a switch 2 sitting <10ft from you(social pressure etc). If people dont stop feeding them while theyre at their worst nothing is going to change. until Switch2 is hacked Im not getting one. Im good here with ryujinx and modded 3ds.
Nintendo is really just speed running a downfall at this point. So sad since the devs at nintendo can really make some incredible art with limited time and hardware.
That being said they can shoot a child in broad daylight at this point and alot of the nintendo fandom still wouldnt bat an eye so… maybe theyre here to stay.
Far too quick and painless a death tbh
Braindead responses and honestly probably just bait anyone passing through, ignore this fool. Ubuntu base install(gnome), in my experience uses less than 2gb of ram at idle. (Even less when using xfce or lxqt) Dummy added bloat to his system and then came on here to bitch about nothing. either that or hes a bot, troll or both.
I cannot find it, but my gf showed me this tiktok where a person made an extremely compentent remix within the fortnite music mode. It was a completely original work made of songs within fortnite it was very impressive. All that is to say Im not a fan of low effort work when just a small amount more could turn it into something new and interesting. Monitizing it is just an extra fu imo.
I do get what youre saying about struggling for money, but even so ive seen street artists with some insane talent and or ingenuity. Im of the belief that everyone can practice at something and make a living off of it even if its something wed consider mundane like… sweeping a floor. Im going to look up a professional sweeper right now on youtube and find someone with insane skill. And im sure the same is true with any task or art.
True. But at the same time If little to no effort is being put in, it does ride the line of being fair use. So if they are monitizing it which i dont think they were doing 15 years ago I find that kind of scummy. but other than that i look at it as the same thing as those AMVs back in the day. Just something someone made for the love of the source material.
Thats sad if they actually consider what they are doing art. Ive been out of the loop for a while but when I saw people making this stuff 15 years ago, it seemed like a thing a niche community was doing. I dont think anyone took it seriously. I still find songs that sound better sped up like this one is very funny try this one at 1.5 or 1.75 speed. Game changer kinda hits like rapgod from eminem
I know i just enjoy thinking in these odd out of pocket ways to get people out of their heads. Its actually really cool looking at a snake skeleton you can see where the limbs would have been had it not evolved to lose them and where the tail begins very clearly!
Always and slightly less over time. But also randomly.
Its a genere of… music. If you want to call it that. They basically just speed up and pitch up the song to make it sound like its being sung by a mouse version of themselves and then boom nightcore remix.
I dont usually post links because of tracking and what not but i dont know how else to show you its loud btw. This was one that i found as a teen that i didnt hate as much.

He looks like Richard Riehle I was taken aback by seeing him with that description till i got to the end and realized it wasnt the same guy.
