I bought a Fairphone 4 off Clove.co.uk and I live in Canada. After a year and a bit of enjoying that my wife agreed to replace her Pixel 4a with a Fairphone 5.

YouTube premium is one of the subscriptions I most often feel thankful for having. I watch enough YouTube videos that avoiding all those ads is really worthwhile, I hope that my view is worth more to the channels I watch, and YouTube music let me cancel Spotify.
I understand being pissed at YouTube and Google, but at the end of the day, of all the things I have to rage at, YouTube isn’t worth it. I like it, there are creators that use it that I like, and I understand that it costs real money to run the platform.

A 500lbs. bomb doesn’t get you very much. I’m surprised how little damage there is.

Some of the videos of this are really frustrating to watch. Like, what are you trying to do!? You just found your spot, now you’re coming back out?? More circling, stopping, going back, going forward. Uughghhh…

When you put about:support into the Firefox URL bar, do you see evidence that your GPU is being used? I’m not sure which settings, exactly, would indicate that, but mine, under “GPU #1” has “Active: Yes.”
Lots of GPU-related options are also disabled, but I still get a smooth Google Earth experience.
I kind of feel this way about tabs, but everyone loves tabs so much I’m often too embarrassed to say anything.
Plasma (KDE) and Windows can both stack lots of windows just fine, so, why not let the window manager handle this and keep the browser more focused on browser tasks?

Well, I submitted a “support” request:
For whatever it’s worth - I’m disappointed to see that XXX is pushing for its customers to download Chrome rather than ensure that their website supports proper web standards. A website that supports web standards will work well on all browsers and will save you from trying to pressure your customers into changing their preferred browser.
Thank you for your time (and, this is my personal opinion, not the opinion of the organization I’m here supporting).

I’m loving the new camera update and I don’t have anyone to tell… I think it’s awesome they’re doing this for a previous-generation phone.

Why are people down voting news stories about things they disagree with? This is objectively an event that has happened regarding an influential person and a serious armed conflict.
This post is at -2 right now. Is this story posted in the wrong group? Fake? Sensationalized?
We can’t just “vote away” world events.

Sublime?! What packages are you running with that?

I installed the Fakespot extension and then went looking through my past purchases. It seemed to work really well and called out things as shady for products that I can say, first hand, were actually kind of sketchy.

As someone who takes an ADHD medication, I find the idea of a drug shortage terrifying. Life gets so, so much harder when I’m unmedicated.
It’s like the difference between walking on a sidewalk and walking in sucking mud, with stuff falling out of your pockets you have to keep going back to find. You build a life that’s only possible thanks to your ability to walk on sidewalks. If you suddenly find you can only get around by walking through mud, even with a huge amount of will power, you’re going to watch your life fall apart as you just can’t keep up the pace of your old life.

A sticking point I encountered - the drop in efficiency as the weather gets colder means you need a unit sized to heat your home on the coldest days you expect to encounter. So you need to buy a heat pump that’s larger than you need for 98% of the year just so you don’t freeze that other 2%. In addition to higher cost an oversized unit is less efficient because it’s cycling more.
So this is where “heating strips” or “backup heating” come in, and then I get we’ve come full-circle.

If there’s one lesson my wife has taught me it’s that telling someone to “calm down” is a sure fire way to not have them calm down.
Threads for Fairphone often fill up with “it’s not going to work if they don’t X.” Lots of people don’t seem to understand that their personal viewpoint can be quite different from other’s.
There are people who are aware of the trade-offs of a Fairphone, but still choose to get one.
It’s roughly the same size as the Fairphone 4, isn’t it? Like 1mm less thick.

It does support microSD (https://www.gsmarena.com/fairphone_4-11136.php).

I feel like a proper contingency in this scenario would be some sort of “instant death” system. Knowing you’re going to die, but waiting 96 hours for it to happen sounds terrible.
I don’t know how firefighters even hope to put something like that out. You can’t reach the higher floors with water from the ground, it doesn’t seem like there was any sort of sprinkler system in the building. Would they go in from the ground floor and just work their way up one level at a time?
