  • I looked at the one for mysoginy

One in four of the young people who have heard of Tate have a favourable opinion of him, but there is a clear gender divide: only 12% of female respondents have a positive view, compared to 41% of young men.

We asked young people what they liked about Tate. The top three reasons overall are: “He’s not afraid to push back against ‘woke’ ideology” (24%), “He wants men to be real men” (22%) and “He tells it how it is” (20%). Although it is commonly thought that Tate’s opulent lifestyle, cars and fitness are an entrypoint through which young people become interested in his content, admiration for lifestyle (14%) and humour (11%) do not rank as highly. This suggests that the main pull of Andrew Tate for young people is his hateful activism.

That said, younger Tate supporters aged 16-17 and female respondents are more likely to admire his lifestyle, at 20% and 18% respectively. Putting Tate’s motivational and fitness content within a wider context of his divisiveness and hatefulness, as well as signposting other figures who produce similar lifestyle content without the underlying misogyny, could be an important step in combating his influence on younger, female audiences.

I think the source provides a nuanced picture and offer suggestions how to combat his influence that got lost in the short notion in the guardian article.

  • From research to large scale trials i would expect building the processing industry to take at the very least a few years. And once things are in place, China can just reopen the floodgates and give these new refiners a hard time, unless they are heavily protected by their government then.

So it requires a dedicated long term strategy to counteract, which will take some years. Also in the meantime all dependent industries are suffering big-time while China can still export the finished products and further strengthen their industries.

In terms of economical power this move is much stronger than Trumps tariffs and there is no rewards to be expected for countries who stick it out for the US. The US has already made it clear that it will just make you suffer more, the more you give in to them.

  • You are interpreting way too much in what i said. I don’t get why you got so offended by me pointing out that for me in the context “being” does not just entail “conscious beings”. Also looking back at the dictionary under 1 a “the quality or state of having existence” and 1 b “something that is conceivable and hence capable of existing…” it provides even more abstract definitions.

Otherwise i can just point out that a reliable dictionary is providing multiple definitions for a word shows that there isn’t such a clarity to proclaim that “only interpretation x makes sense”. At the very least not to the extend to attack someone as acting in bad faith when pointing out that the term is not precise.

  • From your source:

    1 c: conscious existence : life

    3: a living thing

    sentient beings
    a mythical being

The term “being” is very broad and the dictionary you quoted does account for that by addressing these possibilities. This shows that arbitrarily reducing the meaning to “sentient” beings or “conscious” existence is not correct.

In terms of “sentience” or “consciousness” these also cannot be applied black and white to animals or plants. There is animals which show a quite complex consciousness and there is animals, where we couldn’t observe these (yet). At the same time we see more and more examples of plants showing what could be called “pain” or “social life”.

OP could have just talked about “animals” instead of “beings”. Talking in terms of “beings” only muddies the water both between plants and animals but also animals and humans. And the latter is highly problematic, which is why we must not be careless with these words.

Some Fascists work to infiltrate movements such as veganism or animal rights precisely with the goal to devalue human life through weakening the perception of value of human life over animal life. I don’t think this is the case for OP or the majority of people in these movements, but they need to be vigilant against it.

  • When you are suffering vitamin deficiency it is always time to get those vitamins in.
When you are sleep deprived it is always time to go to bed.
When your teeth are rotting it is always time to clean them.

Your condition will get worse until you make use of the remedy. And the reminder to make use of the remedy will stay the same as long as the condition lasts. Just as Windows is getting worse and worse the only remedy is to use another OS, but some people choose to help themselves sooner than others.

  • Depends on the age group imo.

I think the people who experienced internet from ca. 2005-2015 will have the best English on average. Because in this time English was simply necessary to get a grip on a lot of media, games, websites… Now a lot of things are translated, sometimes by force (youtube, reddit…) and with bad auto-translation. Also German content creators became much more widespread since 2015, so now people might never need to look past their language horizon.

Of course the dates and statements aren’t absolutes, just general observations.

  • I dont think any Christian who has a sliver of religious education considers the bible to be the word of God. For starters some of the Gospels that are canon already start with an explanation that this is a recollected account. Then there is other chapters like the letters to the Romans and so on. As for the Torah it is also clear that it is containing some revelations but also a lot of interpretation and chronicles.

This is fundamentally different to the Quran, which we Muslims believe to be the word of God as revealed to the prophet Muhammad (peace and blessing be upon him) and preserved in full and in the original Arabic language. Also Muslims are obliged to treat Christians and Jews (people of the book) kindly and respectfully, unless persecuted or attacked by them.
