There were 103 murders in Greater London last year, which also has a population of just under 10 million and of course is a dense urban environment with a lot of inequality. Of those, 67 were stabbed and only 8 were shot.

Bomb/grenade attacks are almost unheard of in the UK, outside of terrorist incidents.

I don’t mean to attack Sweden which is an admirable country in many ways, and I wish the UK would adopt many of its policies. It’s precisely because it’s such a well run country that the increase in violent crime is so shocking

Yeah idk, I have family in Helsinborg. A car bomb outside elderly relatives flat - in a nice part of a nice town - someone shot dead in another relative’s street, the police station was attacked with a hand grenade… Last year when we arrived to visit a main shopping street was blocked off after a bombing in a flat. Yeah it’s still a nice country and I haven’t literally witnessed any of these incidents, but criminal violence honestly feels closer there than at home in London

I was pleasantly surpsied by how much audio has improved on Linux when I came back to it this year with Ubuntu studio. Reaper or Bitwig are the way to go. Plugins are the main problem, bridging works OK apparently, but there are some decent native options too

I guess you’re arguing the memo only accuses them of intending to destroy “civilian centres”, not civilians. But "“taking large numbers of civilian casualties for granted” is part of the intent. Israel is the arsonist who knows there are children sleeping in the house.

My view is that the Dutch are, in diplomatic language, saying that.

It’s more than not giving a shit. Killing civilians is a feature not a bug, it helps Israel’s war aims in several ways and is entirely intended.

I couldn’t say scientifically but it’s generally not felt that humid. We do get what we call ‘muggy’ days where you can feel a storm brewing, but often the hottest days are drier.

I’ve experienced real heat and humidity in Northern Australia and we never get those levels in the uk.

Yep UK’s certainly not sweltering, although we have gone over 100f on five occasions, all in the last 3 years (and all in the south east of England which is our warmest region)

Also the US is hotter and a light beer is best when you’ve been out in 100°F heat for a while.

I actually think it can be harder to communicate moderation. I have a friend who’s a recovering alcoholic and when he says “I don’t drink” he rarely gets any pushback.

Whereas I do drink sometimes, and even get drunk very occassionally, but can go weeks without it. Some people have trouble with the idea that I drank one time they saw me but are choosing not to the next time. It’s a bit like the way some straight or gay people can’t wrap their heads around the concept of bisexuality… “which one are you? Straight or gay? Teetotal or drinker?” 😂

I’m in the UK. When I was young it would be around 10 degrees now, 15 tops. The forecast for tomorrow is 24 degrees

Yes. If I’m away long enough they might, but I’ve just switched back to Brave after about an hour away, and no refresh. Whereas Firefox would refresh every time I switched app, which made it unusable for me. E.g. enter username on a webpage, switch to password manager to copy password, switch back and Firefox reloads the page. Infuriating

I never found a solution, switch to Brave. Still use Firefox on desktop
