If I had one political wish, it would be that conservatives are forced to live in the world they want to create.

Millennials aren’t going to be the savior you think they are. Like, I want to be hopeful, but I see a lot of Millennials my age just acting scared. They’ve finally gotten some stability, they’ve finally gotten some comfort, and they’re incredibly loss averse. I see a bunch of people my age bought a house in the suburbs posting in the neighborhood Facebook group every time there’s a loud bang “did anyone hear that noise? What was it?” with people lamenting about how the neighborhood is going downhill.
Ten years ago, millennials were pissed the fuck off and were ready to burn shit to the ground. The ruling class gave them just enough to be scared of losing it.
Someone eventually is going to come in here and say that no, because of modern typeface on computers the convention is a single space after a period and to that person I say this:
Go fuck yourself.
Tell that to our centrists. They hate our left more than our right.
To this point: for those who think that, do they think anyone else realistically could, at this point, other than Biden?
Literally anyone born after 1975.
Look, 45% of people are going to vote for the name on the D line no matter who it is. 45% of people are going to vote for the name on the R line no matter what. That last 10% is who you want to win over. And like, they’re tired of both of them. But Biden is the dude in office right now, so they’re gonna vote for the other one.
All Biden has to do is say “after some reflection, you’re right. I cannot serve at my best capacity. I’m going to step aside for the good of party and country,” and then they nominate literally anyone under 50. Hardcore democrats are going to vote for whoever is on that line, and middle America is going to see that and be like “that’s the honorable thing to do. I respect that. And I may not know who this new person is, but they’re not Trump” so democrats still have that tired platform without any of the baggage. They would cruise to retaining the presidency.
Tech bros reinvent broadcast TV.
Have we gotten that stupid?
Something something “these regulations are written in blood” anecdote something something.
To be fair, the original warcraft was supposed to be an rts using the Warhammer IP.
Right. But based on context clues, it’s implied that the full meaning of the post was “Volvo did something for the public good, therefor Volvo is good. Volvo is a Swedish company. Swedish companies are good. Sweden is in Europe. European countries are good. American countries are bad. Novo Nordisk did something bad. It must be an American company.”
Admittedly, my mistake was not being more clear about the point of my response which is that geography is irrelevant - capitalism and all companies are evil (or at best, amoral).
Novo Nordisk is a Danish company, not American.
“properly managed” is carrying a whole lotta weight in that first sentence.
I once dropped a table in the production database. I did not replace it with the same table from staging.
On the bright side, we discovered our vendor wasn’t doing daily backups.
I remember taking psych 101 or some equivalent and there was an entire 50 minute lecture about Freud. At the end I raised my hand and was like, “This… This is all considered bullshit now, right?” I can’t remember what exactly the answer was, but I do remember that it wasn’t an unequivocal yes. And that scared me.
Eh. I want to fuck a 20 year old. I want to have a relationship with a 40 year old. I’ve been in two different casual relationships with women younger than me (33/23, and 35/26) and they were exhausting. Not having any common cultural touchstones was a much bigger bummer than I thought it would be. So I wanted to spend an hour or two with them, but I find myself perfectly content spending an entire day with my current (39/35) fiance.
I was talking to someone (younger, obviously) and they used the phrase “in the late 1900s” completely unironically. It stopped me dead in my tracks and took my brain about 5 seconds to compute. By the time I was able to speak again, the only thing I could say was “you need to shut the fuck up and leave right now.”
As an elder millennial (84, fuckers) I’m really struggling with entering middle age. But I guess I just approach it the same way my generation has approached everything else, with a weird mix of existential dread and wry humor (hat tip to Gen X for starting that, though).
Welcome to the professional world where everything is iterative and and 95% of your clients (internal or external) are data illiterate and don’t want to learn whatever self service tools you build.
I can’t believe I had to scroll this far to see The Green Bone Saga mentioned. Get the choreographers from Into the Badlands to work on this show. Shit, with half decent make up Daniel Wu could probably play Kaul Hilo.
My dad died when I was 32 and my mom when I was 35. So like, not when I was a kid, but still relatively young. I just thought it was normal, right? Because everyone had their own normal. My therapist had to spend an entire session about how abnormal it was. 'how many of your friends have lost one or both of their parents?" The answer was less than two.
Look, I’m voting for Harris, and even as a leftist I’m half excited by it. But let’s not pretend a mainstream democratic party politician is anything other than a capitalist. She might have good policy ideas, ones that will genuinely help people, but she’s still a capitalist.
