No, but openwrt seems to be available for some of their models if that is your question.
I think it’s best to only buy routers supporting openwrt in the first place and switch firmware to openwrt asap. Openwrt or Opnsense or anything open source and well maintained will guarantee security updates years and years beyond the original manufactures firmware.
7·9 months agoHitting a round birthday gets harder every time it happens in my opinion. On the other hand I didn’t mind hitting 42 too much. After all, it’s the answer to life, the universe and everything. That should be something to look forward to at 40!

I’d heard the sandwich story before, but had no clew about some of the others!
There is no need fire up a dedicated machine to do this. Use your router/ap running openwrt and connect a hdd via usb. The machine needs at least 128 Mb RAM (256 mb would be better). Install the transmission package, set it up, add a gig of swap space on the hdd and you are good to go. The AP runs 24/7 anyways so there will be very few extra power consumption. Vpns often don’t allow port forwarding (mullvad has stopped support recently if I remember correctly). You can just be a passive node and not often ports, that should work good enough. Consider seeding parts of sci-hub. it’s a project worth supporting imho.

27·11 months agoI don’t know if this is common knowledge, but if you hit 3 on your keyboard after starting a youtube video, it takes you straight to one third of the video played. So the Wadsworth Constant is already integrated into Youtube and has been for years.
I would try to find something a bit newer. Core 2 Duos are really power hungry. Find one with an i5 processor and a T at the end of the number, like i5 3450T or something. This will be a little less performant but run at 30 watt max compared to the core 2 duos 150 watt. Fujitsu esprimo are also a good cheap option and both lenovo and Fujitsu offer rather tiny pcs that work excellent for severs.
You could use that machine as your home server. It would open up a lot of possibilities. Sync your phone contacts and calendars, backup all your systems, store/stream media, host your own clousldserver, your own Internet messenger server for family and friends (snikket for example). Host a Minecraft server for the little ones or whatever comes to mind.

4·1 year agoProbably more people, then you think. WhatsApp is xmpp based (just made incompatible at some point). Also the chat Nintendo uses on their gaming consoles. Xmpp is a solid mature protocol that’s very lightweight. I use it every day running my own server to chat with my wife and daughter. Calls/ videocalls work brilliantly as well. I am a big fan.
4·1 year agoYou will basically need to start fresh with a custom rom as google services are deeply ingrained into the standard operating system. Its almost impossible/not worth it even to to to get rid of those once they are installed. You could check first, which custom roms are available for your phone. Graphene, divestos and calyxos are probably the most private roms, but only available on a few models. Lineageos is widely available but will need extra steps to degoogle.
If a custom rom seems like too much hasle your can improve your privacy most easily by choosing a tracker and dns blocking doh/dns sever on android. It only takes minutes.
Android settings -> search for private dns -> chose private dns provider hostname -> doh.mullvad.net

its very easy to install via docker as mentioned above. Mumble is very lightweight. You could run the server on your desktop in the background easily or even on your router, there is a package for openwrt. The sound quality is awesome, voice is e2e encrypted and bandwidth should not be a problem either for a couple of people in the chat while you are playing.
