Maintaining continuity of consciousness is the only thing that would make me feel comfortable with converting myself to a machine intelligence.

Never dehumanize fascists or fascist-sympathizers (redundant but ok), it’s always important to remember that bad faith actors or their stooges are human and cannot be entirely eliminated from society, which is why people that fight for positive change have to set the rules such that bad faith actors’ actions are either quickly recognized and mitigated, or have society structured such that even those motivated solely by unempathetic selfishness can only achieve status by masking and contributing positively anyway.
Isn’t post-quantum cryptography already a thing? Probably not implemented in anything meaningful yet, but still.
You’re talking about Hellenistic Judaism, which was definitely a thing for a century or two leading up to Christianity, and it’s thought to have been subsumed into it. It’s not an unreasonable theory given that Greek mythology was familiar with the concept of demigods.
It’s the commenter’s username.
Every day, your body will probably generate at least one cell that would be cancerous if it wasn’t for your immune system. If that probability goes up slightly as a result of mildly increased radiation that day, it likely won’t overload the immune system’s capacity to deal with it. If it is overexposed to radiation, eventually the greater probability of cancerous mutations exceeds the immune system’s capacity.
I think anyone addicted to the dopamine rush of food to the point they are an unhealthy weight has a mental issue, same as someone addicted to tobacco, alcohol, or any drug where overuse is unhealthy. It’s incredibly common, it’s just that obesity seems to be the most outwardly visible of those addictions and therefore gets shamed more. I don’t think shaming people into quitting an addiction is an effective strategy, but I also don’t believe affirming their choices with misinformation is favorable either. I think promoting awareness and giving compassionate support are the only real effective strategies, and while I think that’s commonly understood and used by most caring people, that doesn’t seem to be a viewpoint that gets attention on the Internet.
That probably won’t work by default because ulimit sets maximum processes per user, but I haven’t tried it recently, or with emacs.
Or if we’re talking Witcher 3, Hearts of Stone or Blood and Wine. Both of those had an amazing amount of content, well worth it.
Is that JC Denton? Deus Ex (original flavor) was an excellent game when it came out (despite the best efforts of modders, it did not age well). I wish it was remade. Cyberpunk 2077 kind of scratches the itch, but there’s no replacing that story.
The views of the Jedi were written from one interpretation of Buddhism’s views on attachment, in that attachments inevitably lead to suffering. Though that’s probably more a mistranslation and I think it’s more “dependence” instead of attachment: it’s ok to have relationships and to love and care about other people, it’s just when your happiness or well-being is dependent on others or on some thing that suffering is the result. Though that’s just one view, and there are of course many, many interpretations.
Very good point, my bad.
The only other fast way to fight it is with violence, but without clear national unity and already decent leadership it usually results in some form of autocracy, making the situation worse.
Edit: violent revolution* usually doesn’t work, but violence itself can be rather effective
They all have that same weird mouthfeel after you’re done where you swear part of it is still on the roof of your mouth or between your teeth but you can’t seem to reach it or get rid of it, feels pretty gross.
It’s $193M in stock, which can only be cashed out once Reddit IPOs, thus the drive to do so. Aside from that he gets a “mere” $600k/yr. He can probably borrow against that to a certain point, but I’m not sure a bank would value assets that can’t be liquidated.

As I’ve gotten older, it’s not even just the worldview anymore, the body can look attractive but one look at the face and if the woman is young enough it’s an immediate turn-off.
Same. The vast majority of us are idiots.
