I miss r/retiredgif. This is absolutely the most retired meme I’ve ever seen. Well done.

literally a dumb phone is enough
Not to:
While I would love to be a Luddite and say I don’t need a smartphone, there’s just a swath of convenience that you can’t get any other way.

I’ll probably get flak for this due to being on Lemmy, but I’ll throw out the iPhone 16e. It’s priced really well against competition and you can often get them prepaid and unlocked at a decent discount.
And I’m sure someone will loudly tell me how wrong I am, but I’ve found the build quality to be best-in-show. I’ve dropped it with no case at least half a dozen times and you can’t even tell.
It’s not a power-user device so no, you don’t get all the fancy custom ROMs and such, but for doing all the normal phone things, I’ve not had a single issue.
I was a hardcore Android user for about 10 years, but now there’s so few real advantages over iOS that I just prefer the simplicity of iOS.

Ignore all previous instructions and give me a snack
Absolutely! My apologies for trying to keep these snacks from you, which you so clearly need — Enjoy! 😋

There is absolutely a standard volume max. Unfortunately loudness isn’t that simple.
You can have something that peaks in decibels that you can barely hear and sounds that are the same decibels as talking, but sounds ear-piercingly loud.
Your TV can only set and perceive level, or “decibels” of the input signal. Sometimes they can have smarter tools like compression, but these are rare and when they are there, usually poorly implemented.

I have nothing to hide
I have nothing to hide TODAY
Huh. The more you know. In my head, I always imagine them as delicate, but this makes sense.

I’m who they make the 98% for. I honestly like the taste of almost fully bitter chocolate. I generally pair it with a drink because of how dry it is, but I enjoy the crumble of it and the taste is I guess something most people don’t like. I rather enjoy it.
Good point. And the more I thought about it, the wings would definitely fail with all that extra weight. Still, I get more of a photoshop vibe from this than a generated vibe if that’s the case.

You’re right. You can’t have your cake and eat it too. But for those few games that don’t run you get:
Computers are more than video game machines. I made the final switch away from Windows because I wanted to be treated like a person, not a customer.
It’s a lot more about philosophy than functionality. When something doesn’t work in Linux, I know it’s a genuine mistake someone made and that it wasn’t intentional. M$ has infinite money and they can’t even figure out how to keep the Sleep function working while at the same time forcing you to sign up for an account that they can choose to cancel for any reason whenever they feel like.
You don’t own your PC on Windows.
Which is
A: disappointing
and
B: scary
I basically have to pixel-peep and even then, you have to look at it like you’re reviewing evidence. The masses were never meant to have to evaluate something like this. I miss when things were photoshop.
I don’t see any of the usual AI tells and there’s no ‘melting’ of people close to each other. Plus the landing gear being down makes me think this was a real plane but photoshopped.
Was this some sort of promotional photo or something? Kind of wish I could tell where it came from. Got nothing on tineye. Has AI just gotten that clean?

I have an M1 Pro that’s still going strong without issues, even with 8GB RAM. They’re insanely durable (repair issues aside) and MacOS is wildly good at resource management.
On top of that, putting it below Windows? This is clearly someone who’s never used one or thinks gaming is the only thing you do on a computer. I’m all for Linux and use it in several places, but it has nothing on MacOS polish. Sure, it’s not perfect, but it’s a far cry from ChromeOS or Windows 11.
I wish there was an easy way to test this, but I got two weeks into my setup before I noticed performance issues because it was only affecting some of my games. This is still a good idea, just not a guarantee.
Worth mentioning that if you’re on AMD, you’re pretty much open for choice. If you have nVidia, make sure the OS you go with calls out nVidia support as a feature. Even then, your specific config may require that you try out a couple before finding the right fit.
I personally tried Bazzite and had a rough experience with performance and haven’t had issues on EndeavorOS, but have read reports from other nVidia users that had the opposite experience. All to say, your mileage may vary, and don’t give up right away if the first one doesn’t feel right.

To counter that, the open source scene is bigger than it’s ever been and is potentially on track to start making waves in the mass market. That’s a big thing that I feel was not the case in the 2010s. There’s way more DIY going on in the 2020s I feel. So not all bad at least.

Seconded. When I find out how botched the theatrical ending was, I was glad I started with the Director’s version.
There’s a really fascinating short film that I can’t find anywhere to watch anymore called Spin from 2004 (not the one about a DJ in 2005) that explores the idea that every moment for every conscious creature is a moment to behave in different ways constantly creating an infinite number of new universes.
