They do. See https://lemmygrad.ml and see how almost every post has some downvotes. IMO this does make the posting culture there better.
Heck I think Lemmygrad is more tolerable than Hexbear, by a lot.
Yeah, the Chinese government is totally very democratic and is receptive to the criticism of its citizens! They never censor words and topics they don’t like on their social media platforms!
I know right! Even though I agree with some of the viewpoints, I would rather not see so much discussion about capitalism, communism, or politics in general. BTW, the word is “systematically.”
I first cited a nazi sympathizer without noticing this. After they refused to accept this, I cited the UN instead. Guess what they said in the comments? That the oppression of Uyghurs is not genocide.
The comments weren’t entirely mild either. Have you not seen those screenshots of comments using insults? Don’t you think it’s a red flag that such a large portion of hate speech on Lemmy is from Hexbear?
If you like Hexbears, you should leave lemmy.world and go make an account on an instance that has not defederated from them.
@hark@lemmy.world Though I probably will get downvoted for my shameless self-plug and stance against them, you should read my post on Hexbear: https://lemm.ee/post/5751850. If you don’t have time to read it all, you should at least read the tl;dr and the Edit 1 near the end of the post.
They have defederated from neither lemmygrad.ml nor hexbear.net.
Wow, cool HR. Why did the engineers send their complaints to your inbox though?
Thanks for the invitation. Though I’ve had plenty of unpleasant encounters with hexbears, I think I’ll stay on lemm.ee for now. Maybe I’ll move in the future when things get even worse.
I hope mine, lemm.ee, defederates from those instances too
If you think lemmy.ml is full of tankies, you should check out https://lemmygrad.ml and https://hexbear.net. They are a hundred times worse

But the US is doing something called “stragetic ambiguity,” where they neither ally with Taiwan nor ally with China. China has repeatedly stated that the day Taiwan declares independence is the day they attack. However, if the US ever feels confident enough to actually establish diplomatic relationships with Taiwan, maybe that’s not a bad thing either.
Ah I almost forgot that. I wish my instance defederate from them too
Please don’t use serif fonts for UI elements. Imagine the buttons on your file manager being Times New Roman. (eww.) I think what you’re looking for is a monospaced font that’s designed to distinguish O/0, I/1/l, etc.
Plug for one of my favorite fonts: https://www.jetbrains.com/lp/mono/
