  • Yes, it is still a quartz watch. The oscillator is still a quartz oscillator. However the mechanism which advances the second hand is replaced with onethat does not need to tick.

The kind of quartz watch is no longer a ticking quartz watch, it is a non-ticking quartz watch.

As for the specific wording of the article, I would assume the authoris not fully versed in partsof quartz watches, and does not know that the oscillator which keeps time is different from the stepping motor which moves the hands.

This invention targets only replacing the stepping motor, not the oscillator.

  • This policy suggestion differs from other prohibitions slightly, due to the mechanisms of addiction, and the existance of alternative nicotine delivery.

In the first factor, there is a prime age range during which addiction likelyhood is highest: ages 10 to 20. Beyond this range, succeptibility to addiction falls. By reducing the likelyhood of people in that range to encounter tobacco products, we can meaningfully reduce overall nicotine addiction inthe population.

The second factor is the existance of safer alternative nicotine delivery mechanisms. For those already addicted, more targeted mechanisms such as gum, patches, and even vaping can represent a reduced-harm alternetive to smoking.

Also, black market ciggarettes probably will be just as safe as they are now, since they will most likely be commercially produced for other countries and smuggled in. Its not like RJ Reynolds will start cutting Camels with coca leaves just cause they can’t sell to 25 year olds.

  • Without getting in to the prices at all, there is something to be said for focus. The diner throws together great food as long as great is “salty and fried”, but when it comes to more complex stuff, they tend to fall down. The large menu means the time and affort to get expert at each dish is much higher, and with any turnover at all just can’t happen. Mom and pop diners can get great at their specialties, but chain diners al_ost always resort to reheating frozen product because of their large menus

  • Yeah, this. I lean heavily into coaching, which is specifically helping them apply skills they already have to a problem.

I also draw clear lines between what I can help with and what I need to do for the company, and try my best to display when I am fighting for them and when I cannot. Building trust is a key part of the relationship, and having suspicion that you are two faced kills it dead.

With this and the other things mentioned, I too have only had peopae quit because of money, and in one instance he came to me to ask if he should do so (we talked it out without me giving any advice, just comparing opportunities)
