But how hard is it to clean the inevitable fur and hairball puke?

After having pets for the last 30 years this was my first thought… oh great, another place for them to leave me “presents” (like poop, vomit, dead mice, etc)

Seems like you’d just lift up the mattress like they did for this picture.

Lifting out a mattress to clean is a huge pain in the ass

You do not need pets to vacuum out under your bed

Of course you don’t need pets for that. You just need a vacuum.

Why would I vacuum under my bed? That’s where I shove items when I pretend like I’m cleaning the house.

I’m trying to teach them to hoover under the bed, but they refuse.

I have a bed similar to this, and it just gets a little dusty. I don’t think I’ve actually cleaned it in a decade, and at most there’s just a very faint layer of dust (I just checked) in one or two spots. What are you doing that a mostly sealed area is getting dirty?

Some beds have storage underneath. They have a lift mechanism that lifts the whole mattress. If you used one of those as a base, then cleaning gets a lot easier.

Traditional mattresses need to be rotated/flipped anyway. Also, it’s a good idea to clean under the bed occasionally.

It helps them wear more evenly.
