I think your point is a good one, and not impossible. But it’s much more likely they were sent to a gulag somewhere.
The end result might not be much different, given enough time.
That’s the thing: Trump and his henchmen feel more and more invulnerable and do bolder and bolder things, since nobody pushes back, and they now have the ICE Gestapo to make sure nobody will.
