I doubt it’s trump being smart, but… since the 2016 election, his support from young black men has doubled. He probably has some advisors picking people to pardon that will boost his abysmal reputation among certain minorities.

There is a lot of unpredictability to Trump’s behavior, except just keep this in mind and you’ll never be wrong about him: if it’s fucked up, he prefers to do it immediately. If it’s decent, he’d rather be drawn and quartered than do it. This shit is fucking cartoon villain stuff. What possible non-evil explanation would he have for even considering this? At this point he’s just reveling in his cults’ defense of anything he does, no matter how heinous. The Epstein files not getting released is no problem for Republicans and neither will this pardon be.
