My tendency seems to be owning my own business and freelancing until I die (until I get stable enough to build my own products). I’ve been trying to connect with more business-minded people–“average of 5 people” type of mentality. Currently it seems that the only way of doing this is LinkedIn.
But obviously, LinkedIn is creepy.
Any other people think this? How having a federated business networking platform would be awesome?
It looks like Polywork might be what you are looking for. The early adopters are, as you can imagine, very tech orientated but that is changing as the numbers grow.
With how much information about your location/job/career/relationship with other professionals on LinkedIn, I would rather to have 1 company I can trust to handle data/security/privacy concerns
On LinkedIn at least your profile is not public for EVERYONE to see
Interesting point.
“company I can trust”
About that …
I do hope fediverse will mature and reputable instances established. For now, I don’t think LinkedIn have any competitors, let alone better security/privacy. I do trust Microsoft in that regards than say Google/Facebook/Amazon, or any instance owners right now
Why do you feel LinkedIn is creepy? Just curious. Out of all the social media presence I currently have LinkedIn seems to me like the only one that is actually benefiting me. I post very little on there unless I am promoting a professional achievement.
They state very plainly that they sell your data to advertisers.
I post there weekly (often blog articles I publish to provide value for people), I have thousands of connections (a lot of CEOs) over the past 7 years I’ve been on there and I have yet to make a connection that ends in even meager work. The paranoid of me thinks that it’s keeping me in a bubble because it’s cheaper to keep me in need.
Na, I’m good. I never touch it, except to update my CV before I send it to recruiters. Don’t care for employee influencers.
