To be used for work. Gaming not a concern, might play FM at most which works on anything.
Requirements:
- last a long long time.
- Compatibility with phone. Afraid of Mac for this reason. Not an iPhone user. Also afraid of learning curve and office suite. My work requires a lot of those files being shared around.
- i7
- latest gen
- ssd storage
- decent ram

Very much! Well here’s some general tips:
Most Reliable Brands
I’m not sure the sales will actually still be available in your area, but the “Black Friday” deals are coming up for North America in a few weeks. It may be worth waiting and seeing if something you like goes on sale.
What about Dell Latitude (I’m not going to buy a laptop anytime soon, but I’m curious; specifically, the 5590)?
I believe the Latitude lines are the cheaper Dell models that are probably more geared for Windows compatibility. Cheap components with lack of drivers, and don’t have more tunable BIOS settings for consumers. I know the XPS line is the preferred Linux line in most cases, but search around for that model number and Linux keywords and see what comes up, as it may be fine.
At this point, I just tell people with any minor amount of computer experience to go look at the Framework refurbished store. You can get a full laptop for well under $1k USD, and then upgrade any components you want in the future.
