Some Cubans say everyday life on the Caribbean island has reached a breaking point amid a fuel shortage brought about by the U.S. squeezing the country’s oil supply. Meanwhile, Canadian airlines suspended service to the island and are ferrying tourists back home.

“For me, any change for us will be better than what we are living through, because what we are experiencing is not humane,” Isben Peralta told CBC News in a phone interview during a blackout.

“Some of us who have a little business have a bit to eat, but many, many, many people do not have it. It’s very, very bad.”

Peralta lives in Ciego De Avila, in central Cuba, where he operates a small pizzeria out of his home. He says he’s lucky — he still gets power a few hours per day, but says that’s only because he lives near a location where fuel is delivered.

What made you think op was American? Since you said “your”, I assume you’re not American. Why do non-americans keep assuming everybody they talk to is American?

Cant even find the original comment, but it was written in a way that seemed that op was American, which happens to be true if hs Canadian -> Did you know that there are many other countries that are located in the americas and so making the people living there American too? Why do people from (i dont know where you are from and wont assume anything because that seems to make you very angry) keep assuming usa owns the whole continent?

Why do you assume anything about “non-americans” , whatever that means? Have i assumed this many times now? And how dare you assume im not an American?

Op asked for “our government”, meaning Canada’s government to do something about the Cuba situation. You told them this was what “your government”, meaning the Untied States government, wanted. Because you called the Untied States “your government”, I thought itcwas safe to assume you weren’t American. There was nothing about op’s comments that indicated they were American
