I have a friend like that. He didn’t vote for Harris because she “has an annoying voice.” When I remark how trump is turning this country into a fascist nightmare, he say “I don’t care about that political shit.” …and then he bitches about how hard is to get an appointment at the VA, how little his tax return is, and how much gas costs suddenly.
Voting for Harris would have fixed nothing you mentioned.
“Both sides” is valid until it isn’t.
Gas prices and federal employment layoffs are direct results of Trump actions that Harris would not have done.
Harris said she would invade Iran as well.

Some people are also genuinely fucking exhausted and just trying to live and can’t really change a fucking thing by worrying about it all the time.
Eat. The. Fucking. Rich.
I’ll start up the BBQ.
Eating this one Zionist might make a lot of difference

I’m not picky, start slow roasting a few and we will start to see the rest panic in short order.
If you’re not at the table, you’re on the menu.

Preach! Wise words from the ancient philosopher space between the anus and the genitals.
Grundle was ahead of their time
That is where all the best ancient philosophy comes from!
Politicians: the immigrants
Them: k, makes sense. never liked them anyway.
still not political though.
(hey get out of here with this political talk of “xenophobia”)
Because a pedophile needed a distraction.
distraction like you were going to prosocute him
It’s not even being apolitical. Some people are naturally sensitive and easily feel depressed with negativity, so they avoid the news. Or that they are too preoccupied with their personal lives that they don’t have time to tune in to the news. I’m sure many of you know someone who are out of the loop with even just the most basic current events. I know someone who only heard about the invasion of Ukraine only two days later after it happened.
Your country going to war, as the belligerent, should be more than just “news.”
We are in a hot war with Iran.
I get it, I can see how it’s missed, but I think that shows just how screwed up the system is here.
Kind of the same thing. Tapping out of the world is easy for people especially pertaining events which don’t directly affect them. But in the long term it only leads to ignorance.
Not disagreeing at all, but I think it’s important to note how effective wage slavery is in keeping people too exhausted to stay informed. I’m in California, where a studio apartment goes for about $1k/mo, landlords generally require you to earn 3x rent after taxes to qualify, and minimum wage is $17/hr. So, working 60 hours a week at minimum wage, you might just barely qualify, and that’s without even taking into account all other living expenses.
I agree that ignorance can be a byproduct of privilege, but it can also be a byproduct of poverty.
For me, being apolitical implies someone is full aware of the political developments, but chooses not to take sides or form well thought views. The people I mentioned are more apathetic, as in they don’t bother at all being updated even with the slightest news.
I think many people call themselves apolitical that more accurately should fall into the apathetic/ignorant category.
Truly apolitical people are pretty uncommon - although you may not side with a particular party consistently, it’s hard to keep informed of facts and events without forming any opinion
Ah, to live in such luxury as to afford not keeping up with news. Coddled beyond belief.
Best believe the things happening in the news is coming for you eventually. Your advantage is in having time to prepare. Don’t squander it just so you are comfortable all the way up to the slaughterhouse.
I’m into politics and it went up 9p per litre in the uk in a week.
Is that how the supply chain works that we have a weeks worth of oil at any time? Or did they raise the price sooner.
They go up as soon as there is any excuse to raise them.
They go up as soon as there’s an excuse to raise them, and they don’t go down until there lower prices are actually market value. Welcome to the OPEC scam.
Knowing about naked corporate greed being the source of 2/3rds of all inflation since 2020 is also politics. (The remaining third is due to input costs rising.)
Want gas to be cheaper? Get more people to buy electric cars!
Scratch that, get people to demand and vote for public transit and cycling infrastructure. It’s much cheaper per person than building&recycling batteries for all the EVs, and beefing up the power grid to support the exploding demand. Much better for the environment and society in general too.
that just makes electricity more expensive
Ah but we’ll never run out of electricity. We will run out of oil.
Furthermore, adding new electric capacity is easy in comparison to adding more oil infrastructure.
