Whether it’s radio or retail that are played by the most inane and vanilla of DJs possible with no taste or other means.
The Cure - Lovesong. Thanks to my store’s shitty radio selection, this song plays like 2 - 3 times at a given night. Can’t stand it.
Pearl Jam - Do The Evolution. The only time I enjoy this song, is if I’m watching the music video anymore and quite frankly, I do recommend watching the music video to this song. But, it’s overplayed to me now.
Huey Lewis and the News - Power of Love. This really does break my heart, because I love Huey Lewis and the News, but it’s steadily getting up there to being so overplayed that I can’t stand it.
AC/DC - Back in Black. Fuck, every god damn commercial, movie trailer and what have you, has killed this song for me.
Any Queen Song. Bohemian Rhapsody, We Will Rock You, you name it, overplayed to where I can’t be bothered to listen to them on my own to enjoy.
Phil Collins - In the Air Tonight. I tie this song to the Hangover, in the scene where the guys meet Mike Tyson and he stops them to listen to his favorite part. But, the more times I’ve heard this song, the enjoyment I’ve had is out the window.
The Offspring - Come Out and Play. Loved it a lot back then, it was a symbol of the 90s, now its a symbol of being overplayed.
Temple of the Dog - Hunger Strike. Of all of the songs and bands, they have to abuse this one. It’s also fucking ironic that they play this song, considering its meaning. I’m waiting to hear something from Rage Against the Machine or KMFDM just to stir the irony pot some more that some corporate entity is blasting songs from bands that are against them.
Black Eyed Peas - I Gotta Feeling (God, i hate this shit SO MUCH. It was EVERYWHERE)
I swear that they do it on purpose, but every time I leave from work in the morning, this damn song plays.
Baby shark
my buddy – on a massive zoom call all with security professionals will, when everyone takes a dog-walk break in the middle of those 3-hour calls, shout into the call and the empty offices, “Alexa! Play Baby Shark on repeat at full volume!!” and see who needs a lecture.
Toto - Africa
Even the singer, during one of Toto’s concert they did recently (2018 or so), said right before playing Africa: “Are you ready for that song?”Hallelijah - As a Christian I HATE it because it’s crap, as a music lover / film lover I hate that it’s ALWAYS used for a sad montage
My wife has been showing our 8 year old some of the pop punk songs we used to listen to as kids.
Currently he is obsessed with High Hopes by Panic at the Disco!, and while it’s an okay song — I basically have to hear it every time we all pile into the car.
My favorite song that I have over listened to is Achilles Come Down, by Gang of Youths. It’s also pretty much the only song of theirs I enjoyed. I tried a smattering of their songs 😅
Rehab and Back To Black by Amy Winehouse. Both songs were heavily overplayed on the radio.
Tainted Love, the Softcell cover. I had its bonk-bonk as my SMS tone and the loop from bonk-bonk to bonk-bonk as a repeating chunk as my ringtone ever since I had a cell phone that could take a WAV.
Nah, nevermind. It’s still awesome. That, and the Littlest Hobo.
I put the hook from “Freddie the Freeloader” as my ringtone on a flip phone back in like 2010. Even though I love that song, associating it with someone calling ruined it for me, and I still wince a little when I hear it.
“Ladies and gentlemen, this is mambo number five,” Lou Bega
I love Huey Lewis and the News
Do some Doug and the Slugs for a similar sound.
Heart of gold by Neil Young.
Bam Bam by Sister Nancy.
The Weight by The Band.
Courtney Barnett in general.
You spin me round by dead or alive. Such a shame this is the only song they are known for, they have SO much other awesome stuff.
Samething with tubthumping by chumbawamba and come and get your love by redbone. SO much underrated tracks in their discography.
Really all songs get over played for me eventually.
When Alanis Morissette first came out, her songs were GREAT for like the first 20 play throughs on the radio, but then they just. kept. playing. them.
ACDC - Hells Bells. On too many parties and the straw that broke the camels back was an enrollment day for first graders. It was played multiple times, by the school itself.
