I don’t get it. Without any sort of posting guidelines, how is this any different than asklemmy? Both communities come from subreddits but over there, Askreddit was for general/public opinion questions and nostupidquestions was for questions you feel stupid for not knowing the answer to. Over here, both posts are acceptable. And this one seems to get way more vague “what do you think about X?” posts.
So what’s the point? Why have two separate communities on the same instance for the same thing? Most posts here are, frankly, stupid questions. The post that inspired this question was the one about Harambe. Come on lol
If I understand correctly:
“Ask” is for more open ended questions (The vague “what do you think about” posts like you mentioned). Posts that are asking for a simple / single answer are generally removed for not being open ended. The question is more for discussion.
Here you can ask things that are less open ended and/or are looking for a single or simple answer.
That was my understanding as well but if you look at what’s getting posted here, that’s clearly not the case

Doesn’t really matter how you sort (active, top week, top month, etc), most of the questions are open-ended/opinion.
Seems like a lack of moderation
All of those strike me as questions that an asshole would call stupid or is otherwise inappropriate for ask. In order:
It probably has a simple process answer. Some people might read it as a mean spirited question.
Very specific. This one was also crossposted a lot so I wouldn’t read into the community choice.
This is about tv so probably would fit better in a tv community than ask.
OP hasn’t heard of inflation. Though even adjusting for that and “new content” the answer is probably a very simple “yes”. Not much to discuss.
Not sure if this is a can we or should we, but this isn’t really an ask question. The former has a very straightforward answer (yes, it’s the same protocol)
My take is no stupid questions is for questions you’re afraid to ask anywhere else. As long as it’s not hate speech masquerading as a question I ain’t downvoting you, no matter how stupid the question is.
The first question is a good one for this community IMO. The rest, not so much.
Most posts here are, frankly, stupid questions.
OK so… sounds like people are mostly using the community correctly then??
Some people interpret the name as “no stupid questions allowed” for some reason.
We should make another community called “stupid questions” where we can laugh at people who post stupid questions.
Your question is only valid in this community.
Communities are like people.
They don’t all have a purpose, and some that do, aren’t even very good at it.
It’s for stupid questions
No mate. Stupid questions are banned here that is why it is called nostupidquestions. Questions must always be genius intelligence questions
Its supposed to be like you say with reddit but some folks decided it was a challenge and fun troll to be as stupid as possible with them. I sorta liked SMCF but I blocked him because it was a nuisance in my feed.
