Exactly, I too used to look up to American society in the 70’s, strongly influenced by TV shows, where Americans obviously always are the good guys. But that was also when Carter became president, and decency was an important part of the American administration. But since then it has been downhill politically, regarding decency and trying to build a better society for all.
I’ve been arguing for more than 2 decades that American society is now decidedly sociopathic.
3 times and you’re out, lack of healthcare to big portions of the population. Extreme poverty despite USA is one of the richest countries in the world.
Complete failure in weapons control despite schools shootings are so common it’s barely news worthy anymore.
Police killing people for no reason even in their own homes, because police entered the wrong house.
Police almost never being held accountable. But they still allow death penalty!
Massive CO2 pollution per capita and doing very little about it, and still driving big gas guzzling SUVs. USA is far from lifting their share in preventing global warming. It’s even a popular political viewpoint to make it worse instead, actively preventing improvements!
People die because their insurance doesn’t cover a friggin ambulance, and they don’t want to call it because they can’t afford it!
Discrimination even legally of minorities like LGBT. And also widespread discrimination of people of color. This in a multiethnic country that built its economy on slavery!
The list simply goes on and on, and for about 2 decades there has been just about ZERO progress!! It’s sickening and insane how morally and politically backwards and intolerant Americans are as a society.
But I think it is reaching a point where American society is so toxic, it’s beginning to hurt their economy, in part because the world is disgusted by them, and in part because an unhealthy society is simply bad for the economy. Worse educated workers, and less motivated, and more often sick. If you have a skill, don’t go to USA because they pay more. It will ruin your family life, your life/work balance, and you will die younger.

My guess is you are American, and you are butthurt about people being angry with your country, instead of just blaming Trump.
Well I got news for you, that should have registered a long long time ago. Trump is not the disease, he is a symptom of a sick society.
A sick society is like having cancer, not all cells in your body are cancerous, but if enough are, you die anyway.
The American society is in much the same way suffering from mental illness, so badly that they are doing harm to each other because of it, with sociopathic laws. And now with a mad administration they are lashing out to every country they have relations to.
Except for some reasons the countries that are enemies of democracy like Russia and North Korea. And Israel a country that is committing genocide and war crimes on a daily basis.
I may be an idiot, but that doesn’t change that USA is behaving like a psychopath as a country, and is causing harm to themselves and around the world.
People should be angry with the country. The government has been overrun by barbarian billionaires and they’re harming billions of others.
None of that gives you the right to blame the 300 million people trapped here, the vast majority of whom do not approve of Trump and his bullshit.
And if you were here to do anything other than wave your rage boner around a room of people uninterested in seeing it, you’d understand.
