We gotta agree on one thing that old Reddit was peak. Like you can actually ask questions and get help. But it’s so heavily moderated now and I hate it. It shadow banned my accounts 3 times and had to create 3 accounts. And wdym that you need certain amount of karma to be able to post, like what if a new person just made account to ask for help and they can’t post cuz they’re new and don’t got enough of that bs karma. I hate that it’s not making internet a nice place.
So, I got fed and started looking for alternatives and found Lemmy. WHY DIDN’T I KNEW ABT THIS EARLIER. People here seem nicer than Reddit and no moderation stuff like Reddit and blaa blaa glazing.
So far I’m enjoying Lemmy. Also i wanted to asked but client for IOS. I tried Voyager, didn’t like the UI and that swipe feature (it’s good but just not my type). Rn using Mlem, the UI is nice but i can’t get used how the chat looks, I’m Reddit like chat. Is there any Client for IOS that got what i need?

The karma thing is extremely annoying, I’ve fallen afoul of it myself multiple times. But I also get why subreddits do it: they’re trying to filter out bots and it probably reduces moderator workload a tonne. Lemmy doesn’t have the scale (a lot of subreddits are significantly bigger than Lemmy) to really make it a problem, but no doubt we’d start seeing similar tactics if communities had hundreds of thousands of active users.
What annoys me is when your post gets immediatly removed because of reddits filters, but it won’t say why! You have no idea if it’s something to do with your account, or if you’ve used a word that triggers the post to be removed.
Anyway, welcome! I’m always curious how people find out about the fediverse, how did you find out about Lemmy? :)
agreed that it keeps bots away but it also keeps new ppl away too. I just want internet to be a nice place for ppl and Reddit doesn’t support that. Ngl 10s for post were deleted automatically and it pissed me off so bad.
I just searched up
Reddit alternativesand Google AI showed me few results, among them, one wasLemmy. Then i went up on YT to look for same and ppl mentioned Lemmy there too. Then i dug up lil bit abt it and here i am.Never really understood that. Who is going to have a harder time raising karma: a bot running 24 hours a day making insipid comments agreeing with the echo chamber or a person who just has a question?
Yeah I dunno. I guess it solves a lot of low effort bots that probably generate a lot of noise?
