I dont like memes, they waste brain space and time. How can I prevent the home feed from being flooded by them? I block one, and 5 more show up.
Subscribe to the communities you enjoy, and change default view to subscriptions instead of all. At least that’s what I do.
This, the all feed is a stream of garbage, porn and spam at times.
where is all that porn people keep warning me about?
my all feed has some garbage but its squeaky clean garbage.
Go to your settings, you probably have NSFW filtering on.

You forgot to press Start.
Obviously, you press Select before Start. It’s dangerous to go alone.
You go to them hit the 3 dots and hit “block community”
I block one, and 5 more show up.
There aren’t as many as you’d think, if you block memes@lemmy.ml, lemmyshitposts@lemmy.world and 196@lemmy.blahaj.zone you’ve already blocked 90% of meme posts.
Also, block that thepicardmaneuver guy
Default to subscribed communities views.
tbh im in the same boat. i just keep on blockin them and make use of subscriptions
What I do is two things
- Go to the All view and block each community that has memes.
- subscribe to commutes that you like.
This ways, all your views are meme-free.
Bonus tip for finding new commuties: create a new account and go to your All view. Every post you see, check if you like the community. If you like it, subscribe to it on your normal account and then block it on your new account. The new account works kind of like check off system. Each community that you made a decision on (subscribe or don’t care) will no longer be visible on the new account. This way, other communities that are smaller will also be revealed.

To me, the internet is a place to advertise my inventions, not look at memes.
Funny story.
Meme was literally coined as the equivalent of a gene, but for an idea. That’s exactly what current joke memes are. They fit extremely well into Richard Dawkins’ original definition. So does you trying to get whatever your invention is into the public mind.
It’s just another meme.
Oh, I see why you have downvotes now. Your post title is a fair question.
You shouldn’t look at social communities of people as tools like that. Thats the disconnect and why you’re getting a strong reaction.
